About Me
Randt Boreel (born in Bandung, 22 Mei 1984) best known as lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for Indonesian-based Punk Rock band, SELANGKANGAN.
Boreel formed first band named PLUMP in the middle of 1996 with Rudi Imada (bass + back vocal) and Batox (drum). Within 4 months, the band changed its name into MOONSHINE because there was some other group band had same name with them.
MOONSHINE was famous Indonesian grunge (post-punk). Influenced by Nirvana and Hole. The band has released one compilation album, No More Emphaty (1998), and many singles or EPs include homedemo. During the first few years playing together, Boreel and Rudi were host to rotating list of drummer. Eventually, the band settled on Pepex, with whom MOONSHINE recorded the album and EPs. With Pepex, the band found their greatest success! Kicked everyone ass, dude!
Boreel and Rudi struggled to reconcile the massive success of MOONSHINE with their Underground roots. They also felt persecuted each other, comparing themselves to “X and Yâ€. Opposited. They weren’t compatible, although the whole period of the greatest time was born from their wonderful idea and creativity. Wrote songs together in Rudi’s upstair room. Occasionaly practice.
MOONSHINE had done so many gigs everywhere in West java, Indonesia. Bandung, Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Bogor, Cianjur and Sukabumi. But disbanded in early 2003 causes of Boreel and Rudi had not talk each other. They still friends for now, but no reason to making music together anymore. Pepex was so busy with his new job.
In the middle 2004, Boreel started a new image and different attitude mixed by some Metalpunk style. Began to make a new scenes with some buddies from Lee Ming Community in Sukabumi, she founded a new “generation-x†style inside her mind. Although she devoted champion of early Alternative Rock, she interested to learn Black Flag, Sex Pistols, Chaos UK and Luta Armada (Brazillian Raw Punk).
It was hard for her to found people who wouldn’t flake out on. So, she deciced to made the records by herself, as a solo. The first track she did was All The Bombs (2005). Tells about politic, anti-sexism and global warming. Next was Right hand Of Judas, Eat All Destruction, Naked God, De Onderdrukking (Dutch languange version), Plastic Sceptic and Hurting People.
All of the tracks was released in the middle of 2005 under No Label Record, Surabaya. The album title named For All The Sinners. Most of the music was really personal as far as the emotion and the experiences that she have had in her life. Married, being a wife and mother, how to fight the desparate inside her soul.
Unfortunately, her second daughter passed away (2007) and divorced with her ex-former husband, which destroyed her life. It just devastated her. She feel suffered a lot, try to stop making music and real shy.
But hey, life must go on, right? Hahahaha! Boreel is wake up again, dude! With her mind more open than before. With her music more crazy than the last period. With her new good buddies in this whole world….her life start again just now, my friends!
Boreel is a very angry person. So, she makes dramatic gestures to piss people off. She’s also sensitive, and sensitive people are often the angriest. That’s the key how to make your music full of chaos and crowds becomes vandal, brutality, immers to their icon.
SELANGKANGAN is a project-collective with Boreel’s friends in Bekasi (Cass and Gie). At now, the band still doing recording on studio. It’ll be more raw with some songs and more candy pop on some of the others. It won’t be as one-dimensional. So, Boreel experienced her metal session again. Doing well the 101 Punkrock (DIY Punk Ethos) and tuned more fucking up her distortion guitar. Influenced by Chaos UK, Pantera (especially Dimebag Darrel’s style), Discharge, Disarms, Disclose, Totalitar and Luta Armada.
She doesn’t blame the avarage 17-years-old-punk-rock kid to calling her a sellout. Maybe when they grow up a little bit, they’ll realize there’s a more things to life than living out your rock and roll identity so righteously.
