rake wrote and recorded songs and played a few gigs in Blacksburg Virginia between 1989 and 1990. We didn't get very far in terms of recognition and commercial success, but some of those old songs stand up well to this day.
John Hicks, Noelle, and John Priestley moved to London together in 1991, wrote and recorded a few more songs, and played a few gigs around folk clubs, including the militantly acoustic Troubador open stage run by Roddy Harris and his fantastic band Miró. We went by the name of Quid Rides.
Things fizzled as they often do. Noelle wandered off somewhere in Europe, John Priestley went back to the states to resume a relationship he had left on hold, and John Hicks went back to school to study cognitive science.
We later learned that Noelle and her 3-year-old daughter were killed in an apartment fire . You can hear some of her later music with New Haven, CT, band Gladys Appears Dazed at sonictonic.com . We'd love to hear from people who knew her or her music after 1992.
