About Me

These days, all you really need to know (AND YOU ARE ON A NEED TO KNOW BASIS), is that I am all about The Electric Slide-- specifically: doin' it, dreamin' about doin' it, inventing new lyrics to go along with it, trying to do it backwards, conducting university courses about its subtext. Also, the first 5 seconds or so of the Huey Lewis and the News classic "The Power of Love" makes me LAUGH!! Like, this is a new thing for me, but when it appears on my ipod, those assertive, ballsy first keystrokes (they are keystrokes, right?) just BLASTING in my ears..I don't know, it's making me laugh right now. It just starts out SO strong and SO confident, and I think like when I'm walking past a burnt out warehouse or standing in line waiting at the post office and it just STARTS UP in my ears, something about its arrogance both totally embarasses me and totally amuses me. If anyone understands what I'm saying, or why this is funny, please let me know because I'm still trying to figure it out myself. Oh--one question that is not permitted is "Why do you have that song your Ipod?" I will not answer that.

My Interests

I'm into pajamas and/or "leisure clothes", booth karaoke, things italian, architectural details in old new york apartments, coffee, my family(at first I just put "family", and then I was like: I'm not just generically "into families" (CERTAINLY not yours) so MY family works better), overanalyzing things I write on myspace profiles, wine and cheese, playstation 2, Xbox (oh my good lord: Dead Rising! So Fun!), clownin', gritty cities, boxers, gelato, Kristen Valle, drinks, brunch/breakfast. I also enjoy going to the movies, tivo, psychology, looking at other people's pages for ideas, steak, going to Italy whenever I can, comedy, singing (especially while washing dishes), NYTimes Restaurant reviews, imagining summer trips down the shore with my friends and drinks and fresh seafood, Trader Joe's (dark) Chocolate Covered Pretzels: Oh, the salty and the sweet. I love pop culture, Italian culture, food/foodie stuff, music.

I'd like to meet:

Mr. Big Stuff, because seriously, WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS!

Music:

I like jangly power-pop, new wave, soulful voices (i.e. sam cooke, donny hathaway), smart lyrics. If someone says a band is XTC-esque, or squeeze-esque, or like early elvis costello I am usually into it, even though I think XTC were spotty. When they were good though... My favorites: Elvis Costello (will always have my heart, despite recent journeys into bloated jazzylite self important stuff), Pedro the Lion/David Bazan, Candy Butchers/Mike Viola, Old 97's/Rhett Miller, Ben Folds, Sam Cooke, Jon Brion, The Divine Comedy, Missy Elliott, Hall & Oates (darryl hall: WHAT a voice), Squeeze, good ole Bump n' Grind: R. Kelly (and his followers, recently ne-yo), John Legend, The Go! Team, Stevie Wonder, Billy Bragg, Robbie Fulks, Brendan Benson, Aimee Mann, Ron Sexsmith, Elliott Smith, Lauryn Hill, Magnetic Fields, The Hopefuls (yay minneapolis! thanks david), Arcade Fire and Clap your Hands (just like all y'alls), Fabrizio De Andre', Gershwin, Nick Lowe, that Girl Talk album is great, and there's just a whole lot more..

Movies:

Scenes from a Marriage, Office Space, The Conformist, Walking and Talking, The Tenant, Amarcord, The Shining, Swept Away (versione originale), Moonstruck, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Game, Goodfellas, Manhattan. 3 Women.

Television:

Arrested Development (RIP), The Sopranos (I love it so much, I go through periods of obsessively watching it then I have to stop because it's too involving), Mr. Show, The Simpsons, The Daily Show, The Golden Girls, Frontline, The Office, Dog Bites Man, Project Runway, The L-Word, The Wire (I'm really behind though, still working my way through the first season).

Books:

Lo..li..ta, The Divine Comedy, Boredom (sounds facinating, right? actually it is..Alberto Moravia) Tom Perotta, Stephen Dobyns, a people's history of the united states, Prego! An Invitation to Italian (5th Ed.), Sibilla Aleramo, Niccolo' Ammaniti, Anna Maria Ortese.
