DJ BIG TONE

About Me

BIOGRAPHY: DJ BIG TONE C.E.O., producer, DJ, Tony Phillips aka DJ Big Tone began deejaying back in the late 80’s, preceding the birth of the mix tape era. “House parties” served as a platform for DJ Tone to display his turntable skills and express his love for music. With influences like DJ Jazzy Jeff and Jam Master J, it was to no surprise that word spread in Tone’s Middle Island neighborhood and throughout Long Island that he was the “go to” DJ. Tone continued to deejay and write music for the next few years. In the early 90’s he began promoting and hosting album release parties, concerts, and comedy shows with his partner Michael “Mike Monz” Mansa. The mix tape circuit soon became an incredible force in the music industry, and over the next six years, Tone released a barrage of mix tapes including the best of Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, 50 Cents, Jay Z, and Nas. Tone’s mix tapes created a buzz in the streets, frequently having “exclusive”, unreleased tracks from these and other commercial/underground artists. From 2002-2006, Tone released R&B Banger Pts. 1-3, DJ Big Tone: Real Street Gangster Pts. 1-3, The Best of Lex Barber: King of L.I., and Hip Hop/ R&B Classic Old School Mix tape to name a few. Tone recently became C.E.O. of Gutta Boy Records, an independent record label that was launched in 2004. His first client Lex Barber, a Long Island hip-hop artist whose highly anticipated debut album, is set to be released on Gutta Boy Records Spring 2008. Tone can currently be found running his label and working diligently producing, creating hits for hip-hop and R&B artist. Tone’s musical roots run deep, and he is undeniably destined for longevity and success in the music industry!
