My Bio

Taking after entrepreneurs Master P and Damon Dash, Kas plans to take over the industry year after year with his independent label Backcourt Records. When asked when and where did he discover hip hop, he responds "I was eight years old in Lawrence, MA at a summer program at the Frost School as my dad was a teacher there and he ran a class during that summer program. During our free time breaks outside, we would normally play basketball but one day I found kids doing something I had never seen before on the court standing around in a circle saying words at a fast rate and rhyming. This was called rap. I had never seen anything like it in my life. From that point on, I knew thats what I wanted to be involved with." Kas started off by being an MC who undertook many different aliases from Dub-T to Peranoid to Big Kas, he underwent many changes in his rhyme patterns, flow, subject matter, and cadence. Recognized for his skills at an early age, he became serious with hip hop at the age of 13 and would perform at local shows, open mics, house parties, and whatever he could get into to spread the word. By the age of 15, Kas started working on an album entitled "Theory Of Rhyme EP" which he wrote in a week and recorded in 3 hours. Soon, he started slanging the album hand to hand and every batch he had with him sold out quick locally. "It was crazy, I never thought the album would ever sell like that. Heads were going crazy saying bring some more copies of that for me tomorrow, some of my boys want that. I mean being that young and pushing as much CD's as I did, I felt like a superstar, that was one of the best feelings in the world." Kas says. Selling close to 1,000 copies of the "Theory Of Rhyme EP", Kas stepped it up and soon started a group with Gardner, MA emcee, Syx. They started a group called Regional Dialect and started recording their album "The Coming" but had to stop it short due to personal/musical conflict within the group.

Soon at the age of 16, Kas got a big break when he was hired by Grit Records/Inebriated Rhythm (label of KRS-One) under the promotions staff. "I was browsing around asking about studios in Boston because I wanted to start working on my new album. Then this dude named Grimm hit me up and let me know about his studio and the label he ran. He said if I worked for him, he would lower the price per hour in the studio." Kas agreed to work for the label and do promotions for them out in Boston where he met Mahlon Williams, CEO of Grit Records/Inebriated Rhythm and he went to work promoting "Soul Supreme Presents: The Saturday Nite Agenda". Along the way, he met many artists that he always wanted to meet as he looked at them as the local stars in the scene. With all these new contacts, he released "Punchline Productions Presents: Taking Over The Masses", a mixtape/compilation with a who's who of New England's best in hip hop. "I stayed low from mc'ing for a long time because I felt there was too many emcees out who weren't talking about anything and I didnt want to be looked at as one of them. I was a lot different from the pack and I didnt think the crowds listening to hip hop at the time were ready for my subject matter." Kas says.

At the age of 22, he currently manages one artist and two producers which are Spit Supreme, Stu Bangas, and Cosmo. In the year of 2004, Kas saw the success of Cyrus Tha Great's 50 MCs which was featured on MTV's mixtape mondays and sold close to 6,000 copies with no major push or distribution. This mixtape featured Grafh, Scram Jones, Tony Touch, Royce Da 5'9", Apathy, Jean Grae, Mr Lif, Akrobatik, Ali Vegas, Pumpkinhead, Poverty, F.T.(Fuc That), T-Weaponz, etc. with all original production from Cyrus Tha Great. "I didnt think we could do it within the timeframe we did it in but within 5 months, it was done and released and it did very well. We thought it could have done better but we are happy with the success and recognition we garnered with that mixtape. Tony Touch even shouted Cyrus out on one of his mixtapes bigging him up for what he did. Getting props from the originator is when you know you did right." says Kas on the 50 MC's mixtape. Look for KAS to be executive producing/A&R'ing Spit Supreme's upcoming project "Slave To The Game" coming out Summer 08'.
