Download Mixtape | Provided by DatPiff.com"Music abounds from sound and breaks all cultural barriers. Economic class, language and race are all at equilibrium in the face of music. DJ Hot-2-Def understood this power at birth." Formally known as Jose Acosta, DJ Hot-2-Def was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts; a small, overpopulated urban city where the statistics are stacked amongst its residents. Raised by parents who emigrated from the Dominican Republic in the early 1980's, his rise to success would not be an easy one. A fan of music since his early childhood, DJ Hot-2-Def built his music entrepreneurship on a solid foundation that housed the works of Grand Master Flash, Jam Master Jay, and many others. As the era of mix tapes evolved, he found himself purchasing the works of other aspiring DJ’s such as Tony Touch, Doo Wop, Kid Capri, and Dirty Harry. These influential sounds made their impression as DJ Hot-2-Def began to DJ himself at only the age of 14. In efforts of grasping the concepts behind being a successful DJ, Hot-2-Def made opportunities open and events happen. He began by Djing for local house parties and setting the right tone at family events. At the age of 16, DJ Hot-2-Def internalized his love for the industry and switched the tables. He, alongside other DJ’s, rented out local function halls as a way to present their talent to others. This would enable him to make a small living; while also profiting from the credibility and popularity he would receive. By 2002 at the age of 18, DJ Hot-2-Def started creating his own mix tapes. As demand increased, the circulation of his works amplified. The mix tapes were sold at different high schools, parties, and even local barbershops. As his hard worked slowly paved the way for more opportunities, DJ Hot-2-Def didn’t settle for his current state, but instead used his profits to update his equipment, expand his music selection, and polish his presentation. As time showed true to progress, DJ Hot-2-Def started working with T.R.U.E Magazine and even traveled to the Midwest to open up for acts like Jim Jones, Paul Wall, and Mike Jones. To date, he has worked with Video Cutz Ent. to release R&B, Reggae, and Hip Hop DVDs, while also DJing at most all popular venues, clubs, and arenas. He also travels and is involved with a spoken word poetry group, Soul Caliber, where the integration of Hip Hop and R&B is distinctive. Aside from all his other accomplishments, DJ Hot-2-Def is currently starting his own independent record label titled, “Crime Connect Recordsâ€, and International Radio show. Like music, he will continue to break barriers until he is no longer at equilibrium with the world.
