The aim of this community is to highlight the issues of which Goth's and other alternative subcultures encounter. Far too long have hate crimes towards such subcultures have been over looked, until the recent and unfortunate death of Sophie Lancaster.
She unfortunately is not the only one to have encountered such violence, there has been and will be many more, and this will not stop until we ALL stand up for not only our selves but each other and fight for our right to be who we want to be in this world, regardless of how you look, etc.
We aim to give you guys some ideas of how to defend yourself if such situations occur, support, updates and news. Also we are planning to organize events to support the case, talks to kids in schools, ETC.
Also we would like to highlight a few more issues other than violence, and abuse, such as equality in the work place, and equal opportunities for jobs, and what not. People need to understand, that Goths, and Alternative people are not just a trend, for a fair majority of us this IS A WAY OF LIFE, this is who we are, the way we live and feel. We can't and won't change who we are to fit in, we accept "normal" people, let's help them understand, they need to learn to accept us for who we are.

About me Personally: My name is Debz, Although I am only 20, Ive always had a "diffrent" approach to life, and I have been bulled for it since i was 4, yes 4 years of age. However I don't let this hold me back, I am who I am, and i wont change for no one. However its not all doom and gloom, Im a happy person going far in life, unfortunately for every compliment or pat on the back i get, guaranteed i get 20 insults. BUT i still remain happy, because I am comfortable with who I am
Along with my own personal experiences, and attacks on others for being Goths or alternative, I get an overwhelming sense of anger and frustration, which gives me the energy and motivation to fight (not physically) for the elimination of the injustices and discrimination of which we, as alternative people, face. It angers me that we are judged and that some people look down on us for being diffrent to the ideal person. Gothic & Alternative people ARE NOT VIOLENT, we do not fit the stereotype which people give us.
More to the point I am sick of all the hate, I don't believe in Violence, and i feel this divide in society can be not fixed (just yet), but altered, in the way of opening peoples eyes, and minds not only to the horrid truth about the abuse we get, lets show them we are all strong, and valuable people, and all this hate, is pathetic and low. The wise Shadow said to me:
"It's going to be an uphill battle, but if we stick with it we can win. "

Second in Kommand- Hi my name is Ru, or some may know me as Vicious-[Delicious]-. I am the new addition to GLF UK. I will be working closely alongside Debz and helping her out as much as I can when she is unable to be around. The reason I'm so keen to work with her, is the disgusting problems I have with living in my own Flat. I have had property damaged, break ins, and even death threats for being who I am!
Not to mention the abuse me and Debz have had simply walking through Brighton together... we both know exactly what it's like to be treated like dirt on someones shoe. And for what? It's time we put a stop to this, and I am backing Debz, The GLF and every Goth and Alternative that is willing to help us!
