This is the page dedicated to another UK chapter of the Gothic Liberation Front.- I am mainly based in Leeds (and surrounding areas, but will help the Brighton and Lincoln chapter (the official UK Central Gothic Kommand) and the newly formed Notts & Derby chapter in representing the UK as a whole, any one wanting to help represent the UK should contact UK Central whom you can find on my friends list.
The aim of this community is to highlight the issues of which Goth's and other alternative subcultures encounter. For far too long have hate crimes towards such subcultures have been over looked, until the recent and unfortunate death of Sophie Lancaster (for more information please visit the SOPHIE page). http://www.myspace.com/inmemoryofsophie
She unfortunately is not the only one to have encountered such violence, there has been and will be many more, and this will not stop until we ALL stand up for not only our selfs but each other and fight for our right to be who we want to be in this world, regardless of how you look, race, religion etc.
We aim to give you guys some ideas of how to defend yourself if such situations occur, support, updates and news. Also we are planning to organize events to support the case, talks to kids in schools, ETC.
Also we would like to highlight a few more issues other than violence, and abuse, such as equality in the work place, and equal opportunities for jobs, and what not. People need to understand, that Goths, and Alternative people are not just a trend, for a fair majority of us this IS A WAY OF LIFE, this is who we are, the way we live and feel. We cant and wont change who we are to fit in, we accept "normal" people, lets help them understand they need to learn to accept us for who we are.
