I Am An Atheist
Note: This is not intended to persuade any religious beliefs towards you, nor is it intended to offend anyone. This is strictly a brief expression of my beliefs...

Before we begin; let me give you the definition of an Atheist: "one who disbelieves the existence of God or gods." An Atheist is not specifically anti-Christian.

“I would rather have a mind opened by wonder, than one closed by belief.” I live my entire life based upon intellect, evidence, facts, honesty, and MY opinion. Choosing to live this way eliminates nearly every possibility of being truly religious. Through my life and experiences within it I honestly have no belief that there is a higher power, or a superior being… I do agree that, in theory, "God" seems like such a phenomenal concept, a superior, all-loving being watching over everybody at all times. Yes I do agree that would be amazing, but i simply cannot comprehend something to exist, while at the same time being non-existent...

Although I do respect religion as a whole, I find it flawed in nearly every aspect. I believe religion is a scapegoat for personal issues, a scapegoat for confusion, and a scapegoat for society... If a young teenager dies from a drug overdose, it would be unheard of to say that he/she made a few bad decisions in their life because that would cause pain and unwanted grief. Instead we say, "God has chosen that it was his/her time to go." And in return we are able to sleep that night without dealing with the bitterness of reality. A man cheating on his wife on the weekends, and lying to his children to go out on a drinking binge would normally be affected by a self-conscience eating away at him, wondering what other people think of him, but the weekend winds down and he shows up at church in his Sunday’s best and is comforted by the fact that he is there, he feels better knowing that he’s a “Christian” and has a false security, a false hope… And THIS is the weakness of our society, the fact that we are constantly looking for an easy way out and afraid to be deal with life and the hardships within it. I believe the true essence of religion is blindness. Everything is overlooked by gods we cannot see, it is lead by people who do not know where they’re going, and praised by people who do not know who they are. So we all seek this sense of security, and throughout the decades, it has been discovered in religion…

Although it is true I cannot prove that there is not a god, it is also true that you cannot prove that there is a god… And this is the beauty of humanity. Each and every being has the freedom of their mind. This intellectual freedom can be so powerful and so beneficial to the world, but at the same time can create the demise of a society. Tolerance is such a rarity in the times of today. Atheists are labeled as non-trustworthy and immoral and are one of the most discriminated minorities in all of America. George H. W. Bush has even said, “I don't know that atheists should even be considered as citizens…” Yet Atheists are the ones to be considered, “immoral?”

I do realize that this world is predominantly religious and that this creates me to be an extreme minority in the world today. However, as a humanist, as well as an Atheist I believe that every single person has the right to intellectual freedom and with universal cooperation and tolerance it is possible to live in a world at peace with different opinions eventually. I am aware that this will offend many people. I know I will get judged and labeled for this. But I simply do not care. If you are so weak-minded, so shallow, and so ignorant to reject a belief other than yours so quickly, then you are a person I would never want to be associated with anyways. People that find bliss within ignorance are what hinder our society. So go ahead and tell me I’m going to burn in “hell.” But I am an Atheist, and I would rather die standing up for what I believe, than live whilst on my knees. And “I would rather be hated for who I am, than be loved for who I am not…”

Black and White

Without black, there is no white.
And without love, there is no fight.
Just as without day, there is no night.
And with no dark, there is no light.
So where does that leave us?
You can decide,
But make sure you know when your time is tried...

So without white, there is no black.
And without peace, no attack.
Without a destination, there is no track.
And with no hug, no knife in the back.
So there are two sides to everything, you see.
Just like you are you, and I am me.
So where does that leave us?
You can decide,
But make sure you know when your time is tried...

Without life, there is no death.
And with no choking, there is no breath.
All I'm saying is live your life.
Have your fun, but take it with strife
So where does that leave you?
You can decide,
But know you have done good in your life when your time is tried...

One-Way Street

I gave you my heart, already damaged and weak.
Reluctant and afraid, happiness is all I seek.

And while searching for your honesty, I only found lies.
Loneliness turned to desperation, and my desire became my demise.

Out of many you were chosen, it's yours for the taking.
I opened myself up, not knowing the mistake I was making.

You said if I needed you, you'd always be there.
But I need you more than ever, and you simply just don't care.

Blindly descending, I followed you into the dark.
I'm only searching for a place for my love to embark.

Your pretty promises were shattered like stained glass.
Your beautiful lies should've been a sign this wouldn't last.

With open arms, I soak in the rain, outside your door of love.
But you lock the door, and turn away, as the world crushes me from above.

While some call this tragedy, I only call this life.
I gave you my trust, and now my back yields a knife.

It's so cliche, but sadly all too true.
Clearly, you are all that I wanted to pursue.

You grappled my emotions, and tore them at the seams.
I held you in my arms every night, but only in my dreams.

Another night alone, a cold bed without you by my side.
I lost you and cried, while part of me died, but now I sleep in pride...

For I've discovered the end, and I have accepted defeat.
And now I know that love can be a one way street.

The Illusion:

Caught up in a world full of deception and lies
We don't see the pain, We don't see the cries

All the girls are competing to be the most popular whore
All the guys are tearing up hearts for an easy score

Our schools are divided because of our social status
People are excluded for not owning preppy apparatus

Our minds become filled with cruel intentions
While relationships are ravaged by sexual interventions

A true lyrical inspiration is a rarity to find
Because commercial labels are leaving us blind

Rap songs no longer tell about hardship among social classes
The number one single is about degrading women and grabbing asses

Political propoganda creates these devastating wars
Thus our once beautiful sunset is tainted, while the missile soars

We try to open the doors to our hearts in hopes that love will compel
But the doors are locked, and all you recieve is your emotions put through hell

When will our society rupture from this illusion and finally awake...
When will we realize our world is fake...

The Paradox:

Our world has wider freeways but more narrow minds.
We have shallow people and deep pockets of dimes.

We have fancier houses, but broken homes.
Our movement is stagnant; nobody roams.

Our goals in life involve steep profits and shallow relationships.
Dependant on who were with, our opinion constantly flips.

We are attracted to large men with a small character.
While our fast-paced lives pass us in a blur.

We multiply our possessions, yet our values diminish.
Our opinions are weak, and will never replenish

In a world where love is too seldom, and hate is in excess.
Our society never improves; we only digress.

Blindly following religions; in hopes to do well.
But what’s the point when you’re already living in hell.

We’ve added years to our life, but not life to the years.
We’ve abandoned our loved ones running from our fears.

We have the shortest tempers; but it’s okay, we have the tallest building.
Courage is non-existant, and society is lost because no one is willing.

We’d buy the truth and we’d sell a lie;
Our greed will vanquish-for a fortune we’d die…
