Mollie and Jackie Singer, 18 year old twins, are literally singers from Las Vegas, Nevada. Mollie and Jackie are determined to become professional singers and because Mollie is a Juvenile Diabetic, they have vowed to help find the cure for this devastating disease to make sure diabetes does not get in the way of their success.
Today, these bright 18-year-olds attend the Honors College at UNLV and are currently Juniors. Mollie and Jackie maintain a high GPA, continue their advocacy with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and are thrilled to be developing their singing career. Over the last couple of years they have performed for the National Finals Rodeo, made three showroom appearances in Las Vegas, two performances in the Grand Ballroom of the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C., filmed a Christmas Special for children, and have begun recording the first of two CDs; a Patriotic/Country CD, to illustrate their love for America and a "Spiritual" CD to express their love and gratitude towards God.
Mollie, a Juvenile Diabetic, who survived open heart surgery, has faced rigorous challenges for fourteen of her eighteen years and it is these trials, along with their faith in God that have enabled them to develop positive attitudes, constructive habits, and the necessary tenacity to set and meet goals. Their interests include school, singing, and working to cure Juvenile Diabetes. Mollie and Jackies advocacy began when they were only six years old and the twins asked their mom what they could do to help cure diabetes. Their Mom suggested that they raise funds for diabetes research by explaining to people what it was like to live with diabetes; soon Jackie and Mollie were speaking at Walk For The Cure CEO Breakfasts and from that day forward, Jackie and Mollie always worked as a team. Since that time, they have raised over $100,000 dollars for diabetes research, started an international diabetes support group for young diabetics called the Diabetic Angels, and were two of three children selected to represent the State of Nevada at the first Childrens Congress, in Washington, D.C. By the time they were ten years old, they had received national recognition for their accomplishments when Twentieth Century Fox and Lego Land selected both Jackie and Mollie from young people all around the country, as two of their fifteen Young Heroes of the Year. Additionally, the twins wrote a booklet entitled, The Road to the Cure, and have lobbied Senators and Congressmen in Washington for the past seven years. Mollie has testified twice in Washington, D.C. before Senate and House Hearings and both of them have met with President Bush on three occasions, including a special invitation to the White House.
In June of 1999, Mollie and Jackie began filming an ongoing Video Diary for Good Morning America about the difficulties of living with diabetes. They also filmed a Public Service Announcement with A.J. McLean, of the Backstreet Boys, and have participated in two diabetes-related documentaries. Additionally, on July 17, 2001, Jackie and Mollie spoke at a press conference on the steps of the United States Capital in support of medical research. Since June of 2001, they we have appeared on numerous TV shows such as Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, three appearances on MSNBC, CNN, CBS Early Show, and ABC News. They have also given interviews, or been featured in numerous national publications such as, The NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Boston Globe, NY Times Up Front magazine, Girls Life, and The Las Vegas Review Journal.
Through it all, they have remained humble and are gratified by the outpouring of support they have recieved over the years. They understand that Mollies health has to be their primary concern, which is why the twins promise to continue their advocacy. However, the girls are resilient and their determination coupled with their faith in God gives them the confidence to persevere and follow their dreams.
