About Me
Kim re-invented herself. So, she became a disc jockey known as "Skill". As a dee jay, Skill provided music, developed her chops as an emcee and talented disc jockey at a small club on Cleveland's east side. Passions for traditional to modern jazz, RnB, and rap music inspired Skill to be her authentic self, to use her voice... and power... to create and communicate... To move the crowd! After a two-year run at what was then called the Togo Suite, Skill caught the attention of a jazz show host on a local radio station. Working as a part-time announcer for Power 1-0-8 F.M. / W.D.M.T. is when cats around town started calling her "Lady Skill".Through the mid 80's Skill held down the prime time shift for W.D.M.T., hosting and producing for radio shows "Music for Lovers" and the world famous "Club Style" show. In its day, Club Style was a ground breaking show that introduced Lady Skill to the Rap genre and the Cleveland listening audience at large. The show aired live and direct, every week night. Offering new and cutting edge music of Rap, R&B, the rhyming styles of the local rappers, and served as the stage for the street and club jocks from the area to perform their skills on 2 turntables. The show was unique, and hot! Back then, Cleveland was a hot bed for breaking new music, especially Rap in its early years.Club Style was the show. A rap show, hosted by a female that had passion for the music made the show more appealing. As Rap came to the forefront of the music industry, Skill captivated listening audiences of the Cleveland area then, was offered the highly coveted position of afternoon-drive on competitor station, 93 F.M. / W.Z.A.K.
Lady Skill!!! The first female in the history of Cleveland radio to achieve top five in the arbitron ratings while holding a drive time air shift. She also hosted WZAK's "Rapper's Delight" show. Named as "The First Lady of Radio" and, a Cleveland Rap and Hip-Hop pioneer, she has earned a B.B.A. from Cleveland State University. Volunteering time to host the rap show, "Lady's First" on W.C.S.B, college radio in Cleveland, she continued a 13 year, working relationship as a radio personality for W.Z.A.K.Awarded by civic and social organizations for her contribution to the Cleveland community and its people, music still inspires Lady Skill to stay in the game of dee jay, emcee, marketing, promotion, public relations of concert events, and artists.
