I am here for Friends

About Me

Manager at Starbucks, writer for Public Opinion, substitute teacher, although it's important to remember that you're not what you do. Went to Ship U, live in Chambersburg but am moving back to Shippensburg in July (thank goodness). I like music, The Bass, bikes, books, old things, being outside, etc. I'd love to live in the city...any one, really. I got accepted to Ship's Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certification program, so I'll be starting school again in the fall. I have some direction again, which is nice.I'm pretty outgoing. I like people generally, although I can't stand blatant rudeness and condescension among strangers. When I am King of Everything, I will outlaw those douchebag blue tooth headset cell phone things, unless you're driving I guess. I have a tendency to "take things to the next level" in conversation; I've been told I probably shouldn't say the last thing I'm thinking much of the time but end up doing so anyway, often with hilarious and self-deprecating results. I have a thing for animals, especially ones in trouble. My dog is very small and weird. I ride my bike anywhere I can. There was a time when I went on ONE profanity and humor-addled rant per day, and it was very therapeutic. I feel a return to those days is imminent.

My Interests

Music, Books, airplanes, writing, movies, politics. Being with friends, getting things done, music equipment, eBay, Milo, Virginia, building and riding bikes, going to shows, vegetarian/vegan food, recycling, biodiesel and other such hippy crap, punk rock, history, etc., etc. I've been addicted to celebrity gossip websites for three years and am probably stupider for doing so but I don't really give a damn. I have many...books...by authors like Proust and stuff so that should make up for it.

I'd like to meet:

Laughter. Wonderful People. Recently I think I met Adulthood, but I could be wrong. He was wearing a hat.

Music:

If it came out before 1990, involves bass, guitar, drums, and didn't get radio play then I probably dig it. I like stuff with an inventive and pulsing beat. I like music with raw emotion, not put-on and trite crap. If it frequently gets represented on a t-shirt in a gaudy over-the-top florescent and barely-readable font then I probably loathe it. Originality is a must (in all things really, but particularly in music). Lately it's been, but not limited to, lots of this stuff:

Movies:

Superbad, Supertroopers, High Fidelity, Forrest Gump, Slackers, Dogma, etc. etc.

Television:

The Office and South Park are really all I care about. I like Arrested Development on DVD too, as well as Aquateen.

Books:

Bukowski, Camus, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Dostoevsky, Twain. Nonfiction and Hunter S. Thompson, too. Still need to get around to reading that Potter stuff.

Heroes:

My parents, my grandparents. Lots of other people.

Work-related bitching session, I don’t care how lame it is.

Some notes on Starbucks/Coffee Shop etiquette:1. Don’t order a Frappuccino. Ever. They’re a pain in the ass to make; they’re messy and time-consuming. Besides, they taste like shit a...

No, no, no

... I did not add this Cat Power song to my profile because of "Juno," although it is a good movie. I'm not a bandwagon person, and have indeed been on a big Cat Power kick. Sometimes I can't stop gri...
