About Me

It's not hard to notice when Rachel has come in the room, mostly because upon entering she announces, 'Lil' Rach has entered the room.' Standing there with her intimidating and slightly hip hop demeanor at a mere 5'something, she has become one of todays most intriguing international women of mystery/theatre directors, a 'Carmen Shortiego' if you will. Next up, Rachel has plans to create key chains that produce the rimshot sound on the press of a button, as well as her own action figure dolls. 'That *&^% is going to be crazy,' she mused. Additionally, she remains obsessed with the Mighty Boosh. :) See clip below for some brilliant British comedy.I'm finishing up a show about Jackie Robinson called 'National Pastime,' and getting ready to city-hop again, visiting friends and eventually landing in Charlottesville for the summer to stage manage and direct some opera. Woot! And yes, Boston was an awesome time.

Singing in the shower like I'm trying to wake the neighbors - from the dead. Photography. Keeping an eye on politics and Cardinals baseball from a safe distance. Shaking my tailfeather to some sweet sweet funk. Film and comedy. Stand-up in particular. Pretending I'm a comedian, in fact. Traveling and living all over the world as a hard-working work permit holder! Especially London and Dublin for six month stretches at a time. Someday fulfilling my dream of directing David Lindsay Abaire's 'Fuddy Meers.' I like to stay physically active too, doing whatever strikes my mood.
You Belong in London
You belong in London, but you belong in many cities... Hong Kong, San Francisco, Sidney. You fit in almost anywhere.
And London is diverse and international enough to satisfy many of your tastes. From curry to Shakespeare, London (almost) has it all! What European City Do You Belong In?

I'd like to meet:

They would be, famous and non-famous alike: the great musicians, comedians, artists and writers. For starters Bill Hicks (yes, he's deceased, whatever), David Cross, Julie Taymor, Dave Chappelle, Larry David, David-Lindsay Abaire, Jane Austen, Bjork, Erykah Badu, Jon Stewart, Baz Luhrman, Richard Linklater, Kurt Vonnegut would be just a few. Let's not forget Lil' Jon, King of Crunk. I'd like to be in his posse. But - I did meet Wayne Coyne and Dave Matthews so really...I'm just gettin' greedy.

Music:

There's always been an odd soft spot for progressive rock like Yes, Gentle Giant...jazz (Sarah Vaughan is the greatest voice of all time, hands down, any genre) and blues most definitely, like duurrrrty blues! Muddy Waters, doesn't get much better, though the Black Keys are coming extremely close) but The Flaming Lips, Led Zeppelin, Bjork and Dave Matthews Band will always top the list as my all time faves. From there it just gets random I suppose; I respect so many. Ben Folds! Taj Mahal! Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Coldplay, Radiohead, Bjork, Bob Marley, Jason Mraz (thanks, Lane!), Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, The Beatles, Kula Shaker, Porcupine Tree, Collective Soul, John Mayer, Barenaked Ladies, let's not forget the genres of hip hop and r&b; oh Erykah Badu, the Roots, Outkast, John Legend...and even on occassion the funky klezmer: Rabbinical School Dropouts, you know what I'm saying. And a bit of weird modern composition too, why not: John Adams, John Zorn, Phillip Glass...on the more classical side there's Puccini, Hindemith, Beethoven, Janacek...I could go all day. But I won't because this is merely a website and that's just silly.

Movies:

I tend to go for indies, period, foreign, and comedy. However some faves would be, in no particular order: Field of Dreams, Amelie, Lost in Translation, Almost Famous, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Science of Sleep, Napolean Dynamite, Love Actually, Room With a View, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, High Fidelity, Moulin Rouge, any BBC Jane Austen novel adaptation excepting the recent Emma which was shite I don't care if you are Kate Beckinsale, Waking Life, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset...any Richard Linklater, Christopher Guest, Michel Gondry, Baz Luhrman or Jim Jarmusch directed film actually...and Dave Chappelle's Bloc Party was AWESOME, let's be honest with ourselves. And Wedding Crashers.

Television:

The Mighty Boosh, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Chappelle Show (all two seasons were brilliant, and the Lost Episodes should not ever have been lost!) are all time faves, and currently when I catch them it'll be Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and some Law & Order. Bong bong.
You Are Fozzie Bear
"Wocka! Wocka!"
You're the life of the party, and you love making people crack up.
If only your routine didn't always bomb!
You may find more groans than laughs, but always keep the jokes coming. The Muppet Personality Test

Books:

Favorite titles include but are not limited to: Slaughterhouse Five, Pride and Prejudice, Going Gently, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, High Fidelity, Frankenstein, 1984, The Time Traveller's Wife. Generally speaking: poetry, plays, philosophy, social criticism...

Heroes:

Martin L. King Jr., Ghandi for changing the world non-violently. Bill Hicks, Rod Serling, Kurt Vonnegut and Jon Stewart for getting people to think. Teresa Chaperlo, Lane Green and Anne Naghanathan for all these things, plus being women of adventure to boot.
