On December 4, 1981 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, mother Bridgette S. Jones gave birth to a baby girl instantly nicknamed “CoCoâ€, then named Keri Jones. Growing up, Keri was the product of a military family, having moved into many cities throughout the United States. In her travels, she encountered many different people, personalities and experiences, residing in several places including Fernandina Beach, FL, Hampton, VA, Pearl City, HI, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado. This journey set the stage for her diverse sound, which can be coined as soulful, spiritually strong, and original.
At the age of 11, the young lady found her vocal gifts and began singing in her church choir at Progressive Church of God In Christ in Colorado Springs, CO. After graduating from Bethel High School in Hampton, VA, she went on to Tulsa, OK to attend Oral Roberts University, majoring in Theology.
During her studies and academic schedule, CoCo’s love for music grew immensely and in 2000, she teamed up with the inspirational hip hop group RXN (Reaction), adding a soulful element to the community outreach organization. RXN’s reputation as a solid group landed them many appearances throughout the United States, performing in front of crowds of thousands. In 2003, RXN recorded their debut album entitled, The Experience. The album made a major impact on the lives of young people, garnering the opportunity to tour shortly after the release.
In 2004, group member and sole producer, Roahn Hylton, convinced CoCo to embark on a solo journey that would soon change her life. Roahn, also known as FirstBorn, produced tracks for what would be Keri’s first official album entitled Ms. Jones. This album commanded much attention and gave CoCo Jones the shot she needed to begin a successful solo career.
Through this phenomenal relationship, Ms. Jones honed her writing abilities and collaborated with FirstBorn Productions to create her latest project to date, SuperSoulSista. This album offers an unparalleled mix of soul, urban and hip-hop tracks. SuperSoulSista included the smash hit songs, “Anticipating†and “So Sexyâ€. By the end of 2006, “Anticipating†gained heavy radio airplay throughout Oklahoma and remained the 1 most requested song for several weeks. The song quickly spread throughout the US via internet and radio stations abroad.
In February 2007, CoCo and FirstBorn met with the InnerCircle Entertainment Management team and agreed to move to the next level. By providing artist direction and representation, InnerCircle went to work promoting and marketing this up and coming superstar.
In June 2007, CoCo got her first International break as two of her album’s tracks, “SoulSista†and “Babyâ€, received television placements on the 1 rated reality show on Oprah’s Oxygen Network, Bad Girls Club Road Trip. “SoulSista†starts out with the distinct blast “Who That Izzzzzzzzz!!??†and quickly became CoCo’s signature phrase.
Clearly on her way to being heard worldwide, in mid-2007 CoCo and management were invited to meet with multi-platinum producer, movie director and entertainment mogul, Dallas Austin for a potential recording agreement with his label Rowdy Records. After hearing CoCo’s entire album, Mr. Austin turned to her and said, “I am feeling the whole Cleopatra Jones vibe†and later ended the conversation saying “I am on board, What do you need me to do? I am all inâ€. Shortly after their meeting, CoCo Jones was offered a deal with Rowdy Records to be distributed by Universal.
To add to her credits, in December 2007, CoCo struck international television yet again, when Bunim-Murray Productions began the new season of the Bad Girls Club 2, receiving two more placements on the premiere episode of the new season. Her vocals also appear on Baby aka Birdman’s latest album, entitled 5 Star Stunna, on the opening track “Fully Loadedâ€. The album was released on Motown/Universal Records and is making a huge impact on CoCo’s career.
Currently, Ms. Jones is busy working on her new self-titled project, CoCo Jones.
Not since 'The Miseducation...' has there been such a seamless bridge of hip hop and urban soul. But in a world where musical comparisons are unavoidable if not inevitable, Coco is out to carve her own niche in the minds of connoisseurs and casual listeners alike. While heavily influenced by the soul of the 70s, the 25 year-old Ms. Jones should not be taken lightly as a lyricist as she brings a passion in her vocals rivaled only by her skill on the mic. Coco Jones' passion and versatility will surely evoke comparisons, but this young lady is in a league of her own.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.â€
