Yung Cakes, born Charles Edward McRae,II on May 31, 1986. Cakes started his career at the tender young age of 3, where he would put words together that either rhymed or sounded like they rhymed and made it a song.Cakes grew up with in a family full of talent, his paternal uncles were all singers, his father was a very talented and well known tap dancer, for the U.S. Army and his mother was also a dancer. Music, performing and entertaining is his life.Growing up through the years, Cakes has had many an opportunity to perform for some very well known artist. His idols were, “Bone, Thugs &Harmony, Dougie Fresh, Wu Tang Clan, & LL Cool J just to name a few. He in his little life, has met more artist than most kids his age, knows now before he was 15 years old.The older he got, the more he was interested in music and being a famous rapper, he had seen how they handled the mic and stage and more importantly, how the fans would go crazy to see their favorite artist performing right before their eyes. So I guess you could say that he was kind of star struck and yet determined to be like them. From pre-teen to teen, Cakes experienced the typical issues as all teenage kids do, he had to deal with the loss of his (favorite) grandmother, juvenile delinquency, a stepfather, new siblings and most of all “thug lifeâ€, “street life†or whatever you want to call it.Needless to say he did his thing and of course got in trouble, in school mostly, but he was a good kid and made good grades. It seemed that the more he strived to do good things, he always found himself in a great deal of trouble, but never losing his focus on his music or what it was that he was going to be in life.Around maybe 13 years old, Cakes met a man that had a vision and Cakes was in the center of the vision, he took Cakes under his wing and traveled from up north to down south, where Cakes had more opportunities to meet different artist. It seemed to be his destiny and everything appeared to be falling in place. Shortly after meeting the man he met, he began to perform from state to state, do countless concerts and become a member of his first local rap group, F.E.B. The groups members where much older than Cakes, but he proved to be “the man†and held his ground with the group. After getting his feet wet with this group, Cakes was well known all over Fayetteville, NC. He has been in many contest, where it was apparent that Cakes could not be stopped, he quickly went from the “hottest lil’ kid†on a mic, to “THE FREESTYLE KINGâ€. Cakes was so invincible, that he had to be asked to step down from his throne and let someone else have a chance to win. Then at the tender age of 16 someone was on the hunt for the “FREESTYLE KING†they called “YUNG CAKES†and they found him. This led him to signing his first contract at 18. Cakes, was one half of another group and was still blowing up wherever they went. Cakes demanded his attention and he got it, the fans loved him and at that moment, he knew he had what it takes to be a great rap artist.Cakes have opened for a host of artist such as, Plies, Cassidy, Pastor Troy, Soulja Boy, Gucchi Mane, Rich Boy, Young Buck and more. He recently opened for the Foxy 99 2007 summer jam at Fort Bragg, NC which brought in a whopping crowd of more than 20,000 fans, and has recorder tracks with the likes of Pastor Troy, Rasheeda (the Georgia Peach), Gucchi Mane, Freeway, Mr. Cheeks, Attitude, Bone Crusher, Jody Breeze, David Banner, Crime Mobb, Blood Raw, Rich Boy, and Young Buck. Not only has Cakes been around the mill with these artist, but he has worked with countless producers, Jermaine Dupree, Drummer Boy/ Drum Squad Productions, Zaytoven/So Icy Ent., Young Juvie/So So Def and Don Cannon just to elaborate on the mass hysteria that Cakes has acquired. To add to his stardom, Cakes has appeared on the covers and in the pages of a few magazines, such as A.C.E., Don Diva and Grip magazines. What’s popping in the streets, for your listening pleasure, are three mixed tapes……DJ DUTTY LAUNDRY (HOOD TALK, HOOD CLASSIC SPECIAL EDITION); BIGGA RANKIN (REAL NIGGA RADIO, UNDERGROUND TAKEOVA) and DJ DON CANNON (TWENTY EIGHT GRAMS SPECIAL EDITION, KUNTRY GANGSTAZ).His latest quest in his fight to fulfill his goal as becoming a great rapper, he was highly requested and sought out over the local radio station to come and prove once more that he is now and forever will be, “THE FREESTYLE KINGâ€, when he won the 2007 Fight Club Freestyle competition, in Fayetteville, NC.
