Music is my life...

About Me

"It's about a sixteenth note away from being something else, a half a pitch up to something I'm not in a place to handle, voice, attempt, or give...and the harmonics are vibrating in a way that frightens me like driving too fast on a motorcycle without a helmet."

I'm a female DJ from Massachusetts who's lived in Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee (hoooooo Memphrica!) and now I'm back in Massachusetts where I was born and raised.

Since moving back to Worcester, I've been wanting to get back to my dance music radio show called "the Beat Transmission" that started at OU in 1999 (where I got my BA in Psychology in 2001), continued to KRSC in Tulsa, OK, and then was broadcast on 91.3 FM, WCUW in Worcester, MA from 8-9:30 on Wednesdays (only 90 minutes!). Since I bought a house here in Worcester I'm hoping to start terrestrial radio show up again soon.

In the summer semester of 2005 I began studying at the New England Institute of Art in Brookline to get my BS in Audio Production and Engineering. It's been a longtime (and I do mean LONG TIME) dream of mine I'm finally getting to realize. Believe me on this one - if you want something badly enough, you will eventually get it as long as you keep working toward it. It just might take longer than *RIGHT NOW* which is always what I would rather have. I'm beginning to realize the gaps in my knowledge and fill them, as well as understanding things I didn't even know I didn't know. Watch out world,I will be mighty!

My Interests

Being a DJ, Music, learning to love myself as much as I love others.Taking the journey of life and self-discovery one step at a time.

I'd like to meet:

Trent Reznor, Tom n Ed, Norman Cook, Thom York and Jonny Greenwood, and about a million other artists and such. Oh yeah, and John Cusack (even if I get confused about the spelling of his name) because he's a hottie. (yes, we can all be shallow sometimes) heheehheh

Music:

House. Breaks. Techno. Tech-house. Downtempo. Acid Jazz. Leftfield. Hip Hop. Funk. Ambient. IDM. just about anything with a beat.I was fortunate enough to butt heads with Wesley Willis before he passed on to that great big Chicago City bus in the sky. R.I.P. Wesley - Rock over London, Rock on Chicago....Soul Coughing need to get back together and do an entire DnB styled album a la "Blame" off their last album. Yuval and Seb are one of the tightest rhythm sections ever. :PI want to have Norman Cook's baby. Trent Reznor's baby, too. Oh yeah, and Tom and Ed from the Chems, so long as their respective spouses don't mind. :)

Movies:

Sex, Lies and Videotape. Pi. Fight Club. Clerks. Seven. (did I mention that psychological abnormalities in all their varied forms and degrees fascinate me?), All About My Mother (an amazing picture I recently, finally, got around to reviewing). Better off Dead (TWO DOLLARS!) for those old skoolers in the house.

Television:

ATHF, the Daily Show, that sort of thing.

Books:

The Stand (screw you literary snobs, I loved that book). Gerald's Game. Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls (I think it applies to like 3/4 or more of the female DJ world as well). Anything by H.P. Lovecraft. Lullaby and Survivor (both by Chuck Pahlaniuk - love everything I've read of his so far, but these two especiallly did it for me).

Heroes:

Miss Kittin for keepin it real while becoming the "next big thing" and being a real DJ. (thank you)

All the people who have a musical vision and keep pushing with it, be they DJs or other musicians. All people who have any artistic dream and believe in their form of expression and the beauty in it.

Anyone who loves music and has the openness to alllow themselves to be exposed to new things, even if they may not like it. Thank you!

To all my friends - you know who you are. You make my life fun, give me support, and tell me it's going to be okay. You even flatter me when I know I don't deserve it. Friends are your real family, the ones you pick, especially when you don't have a biological one like me. Thank you. Much love!

My Blog

Returning to center.

When I have to stop and think to remember your name, I realize I'm doing better. Do I stop and bear down hard, biting your name from the end of my memory? Or do I just lift up and let the thought go...
