GRINION

GRINION is a project between brass player Kerry Hoffman & percussionist Ryan Barclay. It is an experiment into free-jazz/trance/groove/experimental music. We push the boundries within each of these different musical genre's to create a completely new, organic type of sound. Using our different areas of expertise mixed with modern technological advances in music, we blend the old ideas of Miles Davis with Bitches Brew and Ornette Coleman and his free jazz ways with the new ideas of Robin Eubanks, Hal Crook, Billy Martin, as well as other outstanding players to create our own ideas. There are no notes on the page, no guidelines to hinder us. There is only our ideas, thoughts, and abilities that allow us to develop our sound. Each tune is unique with it's own specific origin. Open your mind, relax, and allow GRINION to consume you.
A little about Ryan and Kerry: They met at Roberts Wesleyan College in 1999. After playing together through their undergraduate years, the boys went seperate ways in thier musicial careers. When Kerry formed his jazz group (the Kerry Hoffman Jazz Trio), he and Ryan were reunited to play together once again. After working together in Kerry's jazz group, the guys decided to pursue thier own project...thus GRINION was formed.
