About Me

Bad Penny was minted in 2003 in unincorporated Murphy Flats in northern Jefferson County Mo. just outside of St. Louis. We started off in a basement (surprise surprise) playing Rory Gallagher covers and drinking beer. After the beer was gone we decided we needed to expand our repertoire a bit and added lots more artists but with one caveat. We wanted to play the obscure stuff not played on the radio every week or at the bar every Friday and Saturday. This plan took off as we started getting gigs in an ever widening circle around St. Louis and the surrounding counties. We've logged many a mile and opened for touring acts and local bands as well as headlining shows, parties, smokey barrooms, events, benefits, homecomings....you name it. We love the music we cover and it comes across in all our shows and we pass that enjoyment to the crowd who never fails to ask: "Hey who does that one tune you played?" We've gained quite a following in the past few years that we affectionately call "Copperheads". You may see them on the road sporting the ever smiling Bad Penny sticker in their back windows.
