EVERYTHING IS MADE IN CHINA (EIMIC for short) have begun their journey in 2005 when the trio of young aspiring musicians (Maksim Fedorov – vocals/guitar; Filipp Prem’yak – bass/keyboards; Aleksey Zotov – drums) met each other in a café on Moscow’s magical Arbat street and immediately recognised each other’s passion for making music. Sooner than they had imagined, they ended up in a rehearsing room, jamming and carving out tunes that were to shake the Russian indie scene.
The absence of a singing installation and the influence of post-rock music played a major part at that point, resulting in completely instrumental sound without the use of any vocals. The band wasn’t in a hurry to get on stage and spent the first year and a half carefully building up their material. Finally a close friend persuaded them to record a 6-song demo which was released onto the Net and immediately caught attention of indie-fans.
At that moment the band called themselves “Play Reunion†- a name which can still be seen in the address of their Myspace page. But soon vocals have finally found their way into EIMIC’s music and the trio took a step from the pure post-rock genre into the territory of a more melodic indie sound. Before their first ever show in December 2006 the band came up with a new name - “Everything Is Made In China†– originally the name of one of the first songs written together, which eventually showed up on everyone’s list of band names during a rehearsal.
For the next half-a-year EIMIC toured the clubs of Moscow, playing one show a month and slowly building up a group of dedicated fans after each emotional performance, backed up by the original video art work from designer “Modestâ€. This resulted in becoming chosen as the opening band for the 65 Days Of Static Moscow concert on April 6 2007 as well as the first solo show a month later.
Afterwards EIMIC has decided to take an unprecedented step for Russia’s independent scene and travel to Canada to record their debut album. The Chemical Sound studio in Toronto was chosen also for their long history of successful recordings of such bands as Sloan, Death From Above 1979, Final Fantasy, Godspeed You! Black Emperor among others. As a result of two summer months of hard work, EIMIC’s beautiful debut album “4†was released in Russia on October 26 2007. Those, lucky enough to visit the band’s two release shows in Moscow and St.Petersburg, received a limited edition of the album, personally painted over with various colours by its creators.
Consisting of 11 tracks (+ one hidden) and with a total running time of more than an hour, “4†takes a patient listener on a journey through the magnificent universe of EIMIC’s cosmic sound that he/she will not be willing to end.
So far the band has shared the stage with such great artists as 30 DAYS OF STATIC, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, RED SNAPPER as well as started taking over European countries with recent shows at Heinkenen Open'er Festival in Poland, Monsters Of Pop festival in Finland and concerts in neighbouring Lithuania.
The Journey has begun. Just Listen.
