Raised in a family of musicians and music lovers, I grew up around all types of music, moreso, the regional norteno music of northern Mexico. My earliest memory of music, would be a usual thursday practice session in the basement "music room" of my grandparents house in good 'ol Gary, IN. This is where my grandfather, Antonio Prieto Lozano, and his band, Los Jilgueros de Marin, would tell stories through the music of corridos, which were regional songs that sang of actual events, as well as rancheras, the most common northern mexican traditional music. He, being an accordionist since his teens, and having played for more than 50 years, it was inevitable that his love of music would trickle down to his children, and ultimately his grandchildren. This is my cue! Born in 1980, I grew up in beautiful Gary, IN.(no pun intended). This is what I knew, where I knew, who I knew. There's no place like home, and will always be home to me. Anyway's, back to my music background. I started out taking lessons on drums at the tender age of 12 and continued for a while, but lost touch of it. It may sound like a musical cliche, but I was tired of sitting in front of the snare, for years and years, and just tap-tap-tap-tapping, so I gave it up(I think back now, and what a mistake). Then I was introduced to my #1 love, the bass guitar. It was my grandpa's ex bass player, the late Alfredo Rodriguez, that showed me the BASSics of playing traditional mexican music. From there on I began listening to every type of music I could get my hands on and learn all I could from the "masters" such as the late James Jamerson, the late Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, (which got me into the jazz scene) and the hard-hitting funk slapper, FLEA. I began playing bass with friends around town, as well as in college, and the rest is a beautiful history. After that, I felt an urge to write my own stuff, so I picked up the guitar and taught myself. This became the main thing for me, the art of telling a story through a melody. Currently, I do some work as a studio session bass player as well as being involved with different projects live, including my own. The past 3 years have seen me perform in Nashville, New York City, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cinncinnati, as well as many small cities around Indiana and Illinois. I plan on moving to Nashville in the Spring of '07 to pursue a career as a songwriter as well as getting my name out there in the session scene. MUSIC, gotta love it!Oh yeah, I attended Morton Senior HIGH in Hammond, Indiana as well as Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana with a major in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Physics....GO BOILERS!!....and yes I'm in a fraternity, you know who you are! Tau Phi till I die!!!!
