Acoustifunky Freedom

About Me

I have been privy to the profound freedom available through music since before my memory began to take hold. The first thing I can remember are the keys ; playing piano with my Mom. And singing was pretty much mandatory around the house. My early years were filled with amazing music which ranged widely from Elton John, Simon and Garfunkel, and Carole King to Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Hiatt, and Dire Straights, mixed with mandatory Beatles, Elvis, and Willie (Nelson...I am from Texas). My great-grandfather, Cliff Carnahan Sr., was a fiddle maker as well as being an amazing Louisiana songwriter. His son, my grandfather (G-Dad), was a clarinetist and an absolutely brilliant sax-man. My mother's singing and piano, as well as my step-dad's drumming and singing influenced me heavily also. As a teenager, I moved toward hard rock, alternative, and grunge, then a quick journey through R&B/Hip-hop, and after that, I began to thrive on metal and prog. I began to enjoy some southern blues metal, which led into straight Texas blues followed by a full-on blues journey...through Chicago and the Mississippi Delta, on down to beautiful New Orleans and beyond. Then was my folk/bluegrass explosion, which culminated in an array of jam band loyalty. Currently I am revisiting my life - all of the bands that I have been in and those which have influenced me throughout these last 26 years. Maybe you'll enjoy my groove, and if so, I hope you'll spread the word. Beyond all of that, I believe in love, and I believe that it is time for an intelligent, spiritual, neccessary revolution of the ways of civilized mankind toward freedom and understanding via education and love.....and that about sums it up.
