Hello,
Welcome to Incense Rising, a page dedicated to intercessory prayer, open to people of all faiths. I hope you feel welcomed here and inspired by this small sanctuary. The purpose behind this space is to offer a place for all Catholics, Christians and non-Christians alike to congregate, asking for prayers either for themselves, loved ones, strangers, or world events. In fact, anything that they feel is requiring some extra divine help and assistance. If you are not a Myspace member you can go to www.freewebs.com/incenserising and post a prayer request in the prayer book there.
You can request a particular prayer, post your own, ask for a Rosary, Divine Mercy chaplet or Adoration chaplet to be said on your behalf. Perhaps you would like me to stay in church for a few extra minutes on Sunday for you? Would you like to use a particular title of Jesus or Mary, or ask for the specific intercession of a Saint? Or maybe there is a piece of Holy Scripture that you feel fits the moment, and you would like someone to pray it with you? You can always use the classic prayers of Catholic and Christian tradition, or even a combination of the above! Let the Holy Spirit lead you! These are just suggestions. The idea is for you to express your need in your own unique way and feel encouraged and supported by your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Together we can storm the gates of Heaven.
Any requests which are left as comments, or sent as messages are bulletined, drawing the attention of any friends on the contact list and getting a greater number of prayer warriors interceding. This will happen about once a day, in the evening. If the request is for someone who is dying, or a woman considering an abortion, it'll be bulletined immediately.
About Incense Rising.
Incense Rising is the fruit of my personal search for a vocation. During this time I learnt the importance of prayer and the difference between vocation and ministry. As a result, a lingering desire or call to set up a page where Christians, particularly Catholics (as I am Catholic) can meet together sprung up. The idea stayed for a long while and as a result this page was created during the month of October, which is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, in 2007.
The name itself is wholly inspired by Scripture and Spirit. It came to me very suddenly and clearly one day. Incense is mentioned in the Old Testament as a form of prayer (which I believe is sadly neglected). In the New Testament, the prayers of the saints ascend to Heaven like incense. Burning incense is veneration and worship of God and a powerful symbol of the constant smoke of prayers which arise from earth, to Heaven, to rest at the throne of God.
I hope, in time, to include daily Scripture readings, from the Old Testament, New Testament and Psalms. And also information on prayer life, virtue, Catholic apologetics and feast days. Anything I feel will benefit the people who come here regularly.
I hope that some people will ask themselves, and the Holy Spirit, if they could be a regular 'prayer warrior' for this page so that we have a foundation of people that can be relied on. The key is to watch out for bulletins, that's all, or you may join our mailing list on the main website. I can't do this all by myself, afterall! But whether this ministry is successful is down to God and the kindness of people with their time and prayers. Only time and grace will tell.
This page is dedicated to the Divine Intercessor, the Lamb of God, Lord Jesus and also to the most beautiful and perfect human intercessor, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
