In Loving Memory of Robert Shields

About Me

Celebrating Robert's life Please read his own words for what he wanted of us:
Welcome To Robert Shields' Memorial Page!
He spent 11 years on Texas death row. This page is dedicated to his memory and to show people what a wonderful man Robert Shields was.
Robert asked his loved ones not to mourn his death, but to celebrate his life. How can you not celebrate his life? He was a man filled with humor, intelligence, solid character, and incredible talent.

We would like everyone to know that Robert was a loving and peaceful person. He would not want us arguing and bitter towards people. He always said he would not let people break him. So, all of you sending this hate mail and horrendous things to this profile, you will not even get a response, other than this:
May God bless you, and you can learn to love others. We hold no ill will towards your hatred, you will not break us. What doesn't break you will only make you stronger. You will not get the satisfaction of seeing us angry. We are Robert's loved ones, and he wanted us to live in happiness, joy, and celebrating life. So though you hate us, we love you. May God bless you! For those of you unaware to the situation, I have placed our announcements about the hate mail within the blog called "Important: to those who asked about the crime". Since the hate mail has dwindled down, the announcements are not needed on the main page. All it does is distract people from seeing the love we have for Robert.
From Robert's Family
I am Robert's sister and I want to post this message on Robert's site. My parents and I have refrained from making any statements or granting any media interviews up until now because that was Robert's wish. We decided long ago that despite our best efforts or statements, the media will print what they want even if it's not true. We would like you to know that the DA who prosecuted the case, the State of Texas, TDCJ, he victim's family, and the media did not know Robert at all. His first 19 years of life were filled with love and a good family upbringing. I make the following statement for myself and when I say that Robert did not commit the crime he was accused of and murdered for. We spent the last 12 years of his life the way that he wanted it - filled with happiness and love. He never wanted us to be angry or to sink down to anyone elses level. To this day, we maintain our dignity and hold our heads high in memory of Robert. He was a good man and his spirit continues on inside of us. Robert wanted peace and was very dignified until the end. His last words were that he loved us and wanted us to stay strong. He made peace with God for whatever mistakes he made in his life. His family, his attorney Richard Ellis, and God know the truth about what kind of man he was. Robert wanted us to let him go. He was ready to leave his life on death row, exhausted from fighting the system, and didn't want his family to suffer any more. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories. My life has not been the same since the day he was murdered and taken from us. He is missed every single day that I wake up and draw breath. I will love him forever. He lives on in all of us. I was proud to call him my brother and best friend.

Hmm? Self Portrait maybe? *smile*
Robert knew I always loved his little smilies he put on his letters. So I had to put them on this site :-) I keep one of his smilie faces at work with me every day and it makes me chuckle every time I see it.

Robert was loved by many people, including his fellow inmates. One of his best friends was Richard Cartwright aka Chi-Town. He was also murdered by the state of Texas on May 19th 2005.

This is something paleone wrote about Robert the day after he was executed:
I have seen some horrific news stories about him. Let me tell you, anyone reading this. Robert was such a beautiful soul. I am not putting him on some pedestal. The bible says we are known by our fruits. He was funny, gentle, intelligent, loving. We cannot judge people on one thing that happened in their life.
**there was a middle paragraph, but to save on space and to get the gist of what was said, I put only the 1st and last**
Show some love to your neighbors. Show some love to your "enemies". Love the unloveable. If we love only the loveable, how hard would that be? Life would be easy to just love the easy people to love. Try out loving the "unloveable" for once, and know what you will realize? That they were loveable afterall. You will see the outpouring of Joy that God will bestow in your life.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who's life was touched by Robert Shields before or after his death. This is a site in honor of him.

Music:

Robert listened to a variety of music. Mostly he enjoyed Punk and Industrial. In his last Radio show from KDOL ( a local station in Livingston who does shout outs to the prisoners) he had requested that I make him a mix Cd. On that CD was: Skinny Puppy, Dead Kennedys, Ministry, Front242, Black Flag, Primus, Headnoise, and Flatfoot56.
