1992:
The original idea was came out on Low D.’s mind in 1992, which made a band with his best friend at the time Chris Michlis (still one of the greatest drummers around the island), being called originally Marathon.
1993-1994:
Right before the line up was complete the name changed to Scotoma and Deano J. Symeonides entered the band as a lead and rhythm guitar player. We always were a three-member band and from the beginning we have always played original songs. We were simply not interested in being just another cover band.
In our first year together we recorded a 7 song demo tape. Despite the small metal scene of our country, we had managed to sell quite a few demos around the island and over in our neighbouring Greece.
1995-1996:
After a period of trying to tour our island and many gigs later, we recorded another two demo tapes. Up until then, our purpose was to try and build up a following of fans in Cyprus and not only. This we had managed to do, despite the many problems of being on an island where everything is focused on Greek folk music. We were also still teenagers at the time and dreams of a record deal were still only dreams to us due to the lack of opportunities for metal bands that our country faces. Scotoma has been described as an amazing live band, with tons of energy and aggression pouring out of every single note and scream. Never a band to stand still while playing on stage, Scotoma are always thrashing about like lunatics, feeding off the mayhem and frenzy created.
1997-1998:
By the arrival of our fourth demo CD (Desert Fish) in 1997, and after four years of being together as a band, we decided to turn our attention towards finding a record label that could help us be known to another part of the world. The Desert Fish CD was received very well by Cyprus and Greece, with people stating how much we have grown as musicians. Sadly though (in 1998), our co-founder drummer left the band due to personal and musical differences. We have tried to find a replacement at that time, but the facts showed us that we couldn't continue this thing going on. It was time to move forward in general than stay foot. It was a hopeless try to keep our dream alive, so rest of the members call it quits until something new shows up.
1999-2002:
At these time around, the Scotoma members didn't stayed inactive at all. We created and played in several projects with friends or solo material etc. In our private lives also we have moved forward in many ways (well, at least we hope we did), and in so many and different things. So we had to give it a rest for a while and wait to see what the future would bring.
2003-2004:
In late 2003, the years had passed and we decided to get back together again and give it another shot. We picked up the band, not where we had left it, but at a place much higher in the metal scene.
With a new drummer on board (Andreas), we recorded some old tracks on a demo CD called I want to fly so we could start from somewhere and make the reunion a reality.
2005-2006:
After a year though, we left without a guitar player and got two young musicians (Gabriel on guitars and Christy on keys) to help us out with some new tracks and have a possibility to make some live shows once again. During summer/autumn we‘ve entered the studio and started the recordings and production of our upcoming CD called “Killing the machineâ€.
2007:
In January we have released the long awaited Scotoma new tracks on an EP format, and the search of a record company to help us tour and finally make a full length album to show our 100% power, just started! It’s a new beginning for Scotoma and of course they have a newer, heavier & fresher sound than ever before. Be prepared to be blown away once again by this powerful thrash-core groove metal trio!
