Over the Rhine is my absolute favorite. In general, good, strong voices thrill me. Some of my top favs are Chris Isaak, Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel, Lisa Gerrard (formally of Dead Can Dance), Brendan Perry (also formally of Dead Can Dance), the chick from Evanescence, Hope Sandoval (formally of Mazzy Star), Portishead, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Ane Brun, Sia, Broken Social Scene, NIN, Pansy Division, and many, many more.
Orlando is number one on my list. It's beautiful to look at during every frame, every shot, every moment. The soundtrack is fantastic (if you like odd instrumentals). Pan's Labyrinth is running a darn good second place with Children of Men in third. The Fall is a new contender in the top three slot duke-out.
I don't watch too much television. Confession: I've gotten hooked on LOST!, Project Runway, and Heroes. Nip/Tuck used to be one I'd watch but it's gotten seriously dull to me.
Books are great! Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwarz, Blessings, Black & Blue and One True Thing by Anna Quindlen, Neverwhere, Stardust, Coraline, and American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Blindness by Jose Saramago (whew! What an amazing book!), Chocolat, Blackberry Wine, Coastliners, and Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris, the Harry Potter series by Rowling, I Know This Much is True and She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb, Evening (and other poetry) by Susan Minot, White Oleander by Janet Fitch, and pretty much what ever David Sedaris writes. Recently finished Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman and Dry by Augusten Burroughs. There are others but there's only so much time to type. Currently I'm working on Middlesex.
