Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Anne McCaffrey, Jane Austin, and William Shakespeare are some of my fave authors.
I am addicted to cook books, and am not allowed to buy any more until I actually start using the ones I already own. My current favorites are my Nigella Lawson books - easy-to-follow directions written in a chatty style, plenty of pictures for reference, and most of the recipes work well as-written.
My "To Read" pile includes Seamus Heany's translation of "Beowulf," Stephen Mitchell's translation of "Gilgamesh," and Bruce Campbell's "autobiographical" novel "Make Love* (*The Bruce Campbell Way)."
Eclectic? Geeky?? Me? Nooooo..... ;)
Not a hero, per se, but some damn good advice, courtesy of the Chicago Tribune's Mary Schmich (pub. 6/1/97):
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
