Matt DiFabio - (Vocals, Guitar) -
Bill Mez - (Bass)----"HOLLOWED OUT"------"MURDER MACHINES"---- Once in a while a group is formed with a fierce, unwavering determination and
drive that raises the bar of the genre they bend to their will. Single Bullet
Theory is that band and more. Comprised of Matt Difabio (ex-Pissing Razors) on
Guitar and Lead Vox, Billy Mez (ex-Seven Witches) on Bass, Carlos Alvarez
(Shadowdance) on guitar and Jay Horvath behind the kit, SBT sets a new standard
in extreme metal.
"These guys, and Matt in particular, remind me a lot of myself in my youth. They
have a burning desire to get their music out there and to get this band to the
next level with WHATEVER MEANS ARE NECESSARY. I've seen them grow from a good
band to a well oiled machine capable of crushing the opposition."- Dan Lorenzo,
Hades / Non-Fiction.
SBT's music is an unrelenting blend of solid, aggressive fury and passionate
emotion. With great ease they deftly craft a sonic tapestry of musical colors
capable of satisfying even the most jaded of metal fans. The band's approach to
songwriting gives them the extra "hook" to leave their music burning in your
mind long after even a single listen, all the while maintaining the brutality
that is needed in today's metal. Drawing inspiration from the refined vehemence
of Black Metal to the classy flair of Power Metal, combined with Aggro-Core's
unyielding, in-your-face attack makes SBT a truly unique and unstoppable
machine. Lyrically Single Bullet Theory probes the dark corners of the human
psyche, all the while shining a positive light on the ordered chaos of life.
Widely regarded as linked to the tragic November afternoon in Dallas, guitarist
/ co-founder Matt Difabio insists the band's name reflects something more
immediate. "The name isn't really connected to the Kennedy assassination as much
as people tend to believe but is, in essence, a metaphor. The band name
signifies that in one moment, everything in your life can change. All of the
members of this group have had situations arise where one split second's
decision changed their life forever."
In January of 2003, SBT signed with Crash Music and entered the studio to record
their debut cd "Route 666". A sudden, unexpected line up change found guitarist
Matt Difabio taking over the lead vocal duties only 2 weeks before the recording
process began. Rising to the challenge without hesitation, Difabio brought a
dominating presence to the music with his distinct delivery of seething
malevolence and vilified angst. "Route 666" was released in April of 2003 and
went on to receive rave reviews and strong placement on metal radio nationwide
which became the catalyst for getting their 1st video "Murder Machines" aired on
Headbangers Ball, Extreme Rock and Fuse Uranium.
SBT's sophomore Crash release "Behind Eyes Of Hatred" (Crash Music Inc.)
showcases the group expanding on their ability to write powerful rhythms with
dynamic grooves while furthering their melodic, structured approach to
songwriting. Boasting a near perfect blend of frantic yet controlled aggression
and serene calm, "Behind " shows a band growing into itself with fantastic
performances and first rate songs. Tracks like "In Sequence" deal with the harsh
reality of losing the ones you love and the range of emotions that accompany the
loss. Other songs like "I Of The Enemy" rage into a mass hypnotic frenzy that's
sure to set the mosh pits ablaze and destined to become a crowd favorite.
"Behind Eyes Of Hatred" also features a guest drum performance by Matt Thompson
of King Diamond fame on seven of the blistering tracks. Having become a fan of
SBT while touring together, Thompson eagerly offered to lend his talents to the
album while the band searched for a new drummer. "Behind" was produced,
engineered and mixed by none other than James Murphy (Testament, Death,
Obituary) on his Mac G4 mobile rig, enabling them to record without studio time
constraints. Murphy had also worked with SBT on "Route 666" and played a major
part in the mixing process of that album. All drums and guitars for "Behind" were tracked at Angry Chair Recordings in Glenside, PA.
A quick glance at SBT's tour history will undeniably show a band whose obvious
passion for the road runs very deep. A prime example of this would be when in
2000, with only a self-financed EP, SBT hit the road twice for weeks at a time,
including an impressive month long, ten state tour. By corresponding with local
bands across America and with help from Devil Saint Booking, the Bullets shared
stages throughout the entire Midwest as far as Kansas City, Mo and then all
across Texas and the Deep South.
Having developed these contacts and proving the band's capability to back up its
"Do It Yourself" attitude, SBT has now successfully done eight US tours since
then, including a month long jaunt with Soilwork, Hypocrisy and Killswitch
Engage in 2002 and a 5 week run with King Diamond and Entombed in the fall of
2003. In support of "Behind..", SBT hit the road again in the spring of 2005 for
5 weeks with Swedish metallers Amorphis, Canada's Into Eternity, and
Massachussets based Beyond The Embrace. Raging in at over 270 shows nationally,
SBT has become a live act that is second to none and a group that is sure to
make a serious impact on the heavy metal community.
With the buzz of "Behind Eyes Of Hatred" wearing down, and yet another
unfortunate lineup change, SBT entered the studio once again to record their
latest disc for release in early 2007. The band has once again taken their
writing skills to the next level, pushing the envelope within todays vast realm
of heavy music. With a renewed energy and the impending release of their newest disc, "The Killing Floor", Single Bullet Theory is once again prepared to assault your
senses with their vicious, unmerciful barrage of metal. Brace yourself for the
next and loudest shot heard around the world.
