THE CYLINDER OPENS

Sounds like a Hotspot

About Me

It all started with talk of a double barrel surname.
With the engineers it could have been just harmonicas!.
More people came and a few sessions were had at the Adelphi.
But then the big lad suggested chapter 4!

Sounds Like: http://www.myspace.com/cylinderopens - indeed here to warm the cockles of your hearts and restore you faith in pop, 5 young whippersnappers (well we say whipper snappers though in truth I’m sure I saw this photo on the 7.01 to Shepperton this very morning with a crimestoppers number below it) hailing from various parts of Yorkshire and Anglia who go by the name of cylinder opens. Scrumptious fuzzy felt pop replete with lilting harmonies, kookily served soft psyche acoustic motifs, west coast breeziness and a delicious lackadaisical laid back attitude that just begs for a sultry sun under which to recline beneath and kiss the maddening rat race farewell for a brief spell. The whimsically charmed ’pa pa pa’ with its sherbet like fizzyness and wig flipping psychedelicised carousel organ sounds like something that’s escaped from a lost and forgotten 70’s kids TV show while the frankly desirable ’bring it back’ is a spliff passing super chilled ‘let it be’ era Beatles shimmying up to the Band. ’tyrants’ could in time prove to be a monster of a track on par (we kid you not) with ’wonderwall’ given that is the right amount of production application- this time slowing the pace to a mere murmur with the mood following similar pursuit this honey recalls (strangely enough) at times a softly demurring variant of Dawn of the Replicants - guaranteed to leave a inner fuzzy glow. Though for me personally it’s the hurting ’take a bow’ that gets to push all the relevant buttons and in the process deliver up a gorgeously uplifting serenade of prickly princely pop that those with a sense a doomed romance about them will find nigh on impossible to walk away from.
