About Me

Where has Shoegazing gone to?Today's world of music consists of mass produced superstars. A conveyer belt of singing sensations are created and wrapped into tiny, neat packages and then shipped off to be unveiled unto the world as the next big thing. The originality of the artists are initially dampened for the appeal of the masses, the people do not want unique. A barrage of press conferences and media attention insure their popularity by force feeding the people an idea of what is new and trendy. Peer pressure from your television set abounds. Inventive marketing ploys stalk the potential fans with desperate attempts at culling loyalty. The radio stations play the same songs by the same artists over and over again, afraid to branch out and offer the people a choice. Where are the others? Where have our choices gone?This terroristic attack on musical choice has lead many artistic genres to near extinction. One, in particular, is shoegazing. Shoegazing (also known as shoegaze) is a genre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. Bands such as Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Moose, and Chapterhouse, were the first to emerge as shoegaze artists. The name "shoegaze" originated from the way the artists focused their attention on their effects pedals while transporting their listeners through dark worlds of intrigue and psychedelia. It seemed as if the bands were gazing at their shoes, therefore shoegaze. Unfortunately, the genre only lasted until the mid 1990s, peaking circa 1990 to 1991. Since that time shoegazing has slowly withered away from the public eye, mutating and camoflging itself, lying dormant until it can be brought back into the sunlight yet again. Shoegazing was a peculiar art form of music; where deep seeded effects and whispered lyrics made you go outside your plane of existence to discover the feelings and emotions that you may have forgotten along the way. It was a time when music was a friend, a confidant, and perhaps, at times, a lover. When music made you think, not just move.So where are they? The shoegazers of the next generation. Hasn't it been long enough?This is what a pair of musicians asked themselves in the winter of 2008. Where did our music go? Determined to bring a modern form of shoegazing music to a new generation of ears, the friends decided to form the band Rabbit's Revenge. The band consists of singer/songwriters Scott Yancey and Ricki Barker. The band has also been known to collaborate with other musicians such as guitarist Justin Lowenthal. The name, Rabbit's Revenge is derived from the book "Watership Down" by Richard Adams. It serves as a mantra and ironic twist of phrase representing the group's view of mainstream music and trumpeting other hard working independent artists of today.The upcoming release of their debut album +/- (PLUS OR MINUS), will showcase the band's influence of shoegazing and trip hop at it's darkest points. The album is a musical Pandora's Box of songs that guide the listeners into the darkest realms of imagination. It's themes of loss, revenge, and the errors of conventionality are a testament to the maturity and depth of the musicians.{Excerpt from The Ticket magazine}
