The South Yorkshire Pride Committee is pleased to announce that South Yorkshire’s annual gay pride event is to take place on Saturday 7th June 2008. Cemetery Park on Montague Street is to set the stage for the campest, most outrageous event to take place in Sheffield to date.South Yorkshire Pride – Sheffield 2008 is a totally free event and invites lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals from all walks of life and their many friends and supporters to get involved and attend. Celebrating diversity and inclusion the event will help to promote equality and raise awareness, to help eliminate discrimination against the LGBT community.Members of the Pride Committee have already been busy organising events raising money to ensure Sheffield’s First Pride is a massive success. Already collaborating with some of Sheffield’s most popular gay and gay-friendly bars, such as Affinity, Lion’s Lair and Ha Ha Bar, there is much more to come.There are plenty of fundraiser events running up to the big day - keep an eye on the website to see what's happening.South Yorkshire Pride 2008 has already received support from a number of prominent individuals including Jan Wilson, the leader of Sheffield City Council who stated “I am pleased that South Yorkshire Pride will take place in Sheffield this year and send my best wishes for its success.†Similarly, much appreciated monetary contributions have also been received from both Sheffield Universities.Anyone interested in providing support or working in partnership with South Yorkshire Pride is urged to contact the Sheffield Pride committee on
