About Me

Israeli- born Pianist and composer Shimrit Shoshan began playing the organ and flute when she was 8 years old. The young girl's talent got her a placement in Israel's most prestigious Performing Arts High School. Shimrit graduated from the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts with honors. At 18, she attended the Israeli army as an "Excellent Musician". A title only given to a select few young talents entering a national program for the Arts. There she worked and studied alongside the leading names in Israeli Jazz such as Amit Golan, Shai Zalman, Ofer Ganor Amos Hoffman , Avishai Cohen and Rea Barness . In 2002 Shimrit decided to move to NYC to pursue her career in music. The arrival of the young artist quickly spread around town...The likes of Mr.Marsalis and The Roots invited the young Jazz artist to collaborate. Flattered and humbled at the same time, Shimrit however decided to first focus on expanding her kilss and creativity. She was accepted as student in the Jazz Program of City College and has received several scholarships for her performance as well as her compositions. Shimrit has been studying with some of the most well known Jazz musicians such as Eric Reed, Frank Hewitt, Harry Whitaker, Kenny Barron, Ray Gallon, Charles Toliver and Benny Powell. Besides small festivals Shimrit has been starting to make her mark on the New York Jazz scene. She has played at venues like Dizzy’s at Lincoln Center , Fat Cat, Smalls, Sweet Rhythm and Gitano. After being tempted with a great scholarship offer Shimrit continues her studies at New School Jazz program. Ms.Shoshan recently finished her first recording session.
