ON TAP MAGAZINE ~ GREGORY PAGE, “All Make Believe†(June '08)
— Fabulous pop music out of San Diego that is in no great rush at all, taking its time to build up into its authentically ‘60s sound. Not quite melancholy, Gregory Page’s music has a happiness that has been shaped by the sometimes harsh realities of the world; it’s a mature kind of joy, but one that propels you more into the world than into yourself. Complicated pop music has not been this good since John Lennon’s too short solo career. — Lars Garvey Laing-Peterson
IN TUNE MAGAZINE ~ GREGORY PAGE, “All Make Believe†(June '08)
— The next time you’re having trouble falling asleep,
pop “All Make Believe†into your CD player, grab your head-
phones and let Gregory Page lull you to sleep. Not that the
classically trained Page is boring. Far from it, in fact. It’s just
his lush orchestrations — complete with cellos and violins— are just so damn soothing.
“All Make Believe†is an excellent record,
but not one you’re likely to play at your
next party or while working out at the gym.
The mellow, introspective tone is set on
remarkable disc opener “Sleeping Dogs†and
Page continues in that vein with melancholic
standouts such as “Knife in My Chest,â€
“Only Your Shadow Remains†and “Ghost With Sad Eyes.â€
Though far from a household name, the England-born, San
Diego-based Page is a remarkably prolific recording artist. “All
Make Believe†is his 18th album (with all of them having been
recorded in his bedroom) and he’s worked with artists as varied
as Jason Mraz, John Doe, Jewel and Tom Brosseau.
He’s one of those under-the-radar standouts who must be
heard to be appreciated. Sweet dreams. — Jeffery Sisk
