About Me

This page is dedicated to the 3,000 mothers who held their babies as they died of malaria on August 30, 2005. That's the day my personal experience with malaria ended with the joyful birth of our healthy son, Jacob. My hope is that this page will not just inform you, but it will take root in your soul and move you to action. My move to action began as I lay in a hospital bed in the Midwest, 4 months pregnant, and heard the doctor's diagnosis...malaria. My immediate reaction was panic, but then I realized that God is sovereign and I would have to trust Him — even if my baby died. During my recovery I learned that every single day 3,000 children die from malaria! That's one child every 30 seconds. What's more astonishing is that malaria is preventable, treatable and curable. And yet it remains a leading killer of children, especially those under 5. Click this banner to see how you can make a difference! This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? Go get one!

My Interests

MUSIC! Playing with my kiddos, scrapbooking (it just doesn't happen very much), making a difference in the world

I'd like to meet:

I'd say Mark Roach, but I know him! whoo-hoo! Chris Tomlin, First Lady Laura Bush, Oprah, Bill Gates, Matthew West, Steven Curtis Chapman, Bono

Music:

Mostly Contemperary Christian, but I'm a country girl at heart! Mark Roach, Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, Toby Mac, Carrie Underwood, Nicole Nordeman

Movies:

What? Movies? I don't have time for movies. My all time favorites though The Princess Bride, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Lady Jane, The Emporer's New Groove, While You Were Sleeping

Television:

Not much time for this either, but I do like those crazy reality shows. ER and Law and Order (any of them) are usually watched in some capacity.

Books:

The Bible, anything by Max Lucado, Creative Correction, Skippyjon Jones, all the books I get to read to my kiddos

Heroes:

The 3,000 mothers that had to hold their babies while they died of malaria today. They are strong and resilient and we will help them. We will make a difference one bed net at a time.

Leaning in

I've heard that phrase a lot the last few days.  I've been watching the playoffs (yep, I'm a football girl) and it really gives me a visual for leaning in.  Picture the stance - lo...

When God holds on

When I was pregnant with my baby boy and found out I had malaria, I was so scared.  I'm still wondering about that fear I had.  Fear that I would lose my baby.  Fear that my grief ...

What malaria feels like

I've had that question a lot.  What's it feel like?  How'd you know you had it? Well, it makes me scared to get the flu! Now I think, Is this really the flu or one of those scary "flu-l...
