About Me

THE STORY OF SMALLPAUL
So, three definitively unreligious kids by the names of Mike Keller (myself), Alan DeBenedetti, and Spencer Hilligoss wound up off the beaten path to Catholic School- where we learned to be socially awkward, and started a punk band. We made the mistake of going to college, but that turned out to be not a total loss when we met a radical drummer named Jon Bush, who we share with the awesome string metal band, Judgement Day (featuring a member of Bright Eyes and The Faint). We started a new punk band- sounding much like an improved version of the high-school trio, but over the next 4 years slowly evolved as we became better educated, increasingly frustrated, and quite a bit fonder of hardcore and metal. Bands we can agree on include Converge, Cave In, Thrice, The Nerve Agents, and of course, Nirvana.
At this juncture, we've played at a countless number of venues (e.g. The Pound, The Catalyst, Pier 30/32 for Warped Tour 2003, and bars galore) with a countless number of bands (e.g. Pitch Black, Swingin' Utters and tons of locals). We've self-recorded and self-released two ep's as well as two full length albums- the latest of which, titled "The Endless Appetite," received 4/5 stars on punkbands.com and attracted the attention of Unfun Records in Berkeley, who has committed to putting out our next release.
Other upcoming projects include recording a song for a Lorelei Records compilation (a label run by current and ex members of Good Riddance and Fury 66), as well as contributing songs to the soundtrack of an independent horror film called "Puppy," starring Alice Cooper's hot daughter. This year also marks our graduation, at which point we can put our hard-earned degrees to use by quitting our jobs and touring the country in a van.

Although we're looking forward to recording and releasing our next full length album on Unfun Records , we have two self produced, self-released albums that you can buy online or at our shows. Get em while we still got em:
the endless appetite - 2005

newer old shit. we started finding our own sound here. quite a bit harder and more technical and better produced than the s/t. still rooted in punk but with lots of hardcore and metal elements.
4/5 stars on punkbands.com
self-titled - 2003

our old shit. more straight forward punk. still some metallish riffs and screaming though. we were nervous and recorded all the songs really fast! recorded in a high school gym, this one's for the die hards.

Purevolume is like, so cool.

I updated our purevolume for the first time since probably it's inception. Why? Because I really wanted to write a blog about it.
