Sad Lisa

Rock for Troubled Times

About Me

Sad Lisa’s strength lies in their ability to traverse a wide array of dynamics. Black clouds of distortion give way to acoustic musicality, screaming angst turns to whispered introspection. Jared Christopher’s lyrics intertwine abstract thoughts, personal experience and frustration with the politricks we all endure on a daily basis; Graham Haworth’s guitar riffs add a raw musical subtext to the lyrics, from angular-voiced clean chords to all-out Marshall fury; Rustin Rice’s bass lines intertwine tightly with the drums, while also contributing a harmonic counterpoint to the guitar and a rhythmic partner to the vocals; Brian Monzel, blessed with drum skills a six-armed man would envy, provides the primal beats and sturdy backbone that help give Sad Lisa their distinct style. All close friends and musical comrades for the better part of a decade, Sad Lisa has played nearly every grimy rock stage in San Luis Obispo County, leaving their fans sweaty and hungry for more of their intense mixture of hard rock, metal and alternative music. In July 2007, Sad Lisa took the main stage at the California Mid-State Fair before platinum-selling acts Hoobastank and Godsmack, riling up the 2,500 or so early-arriving fans into a raucous mood. The future for Sad Lisa includes more road gigs, such as in Santa Cruz County, where they fomented a fan base with a successful showing at the 2007 Your Music Magazine’s Santa Cruz Rock Wars. Based in the Central Coast town of San Luis Obispo, Sad Lisa is perfectly poised to head both north and south to expand their hard-hitting musical empire.
