About Me

We are two former college roommates, Brax and Marc, who are climbing Africa’s highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, to raise awareness of the drastic need for something that most Americans take for granted every day… Clean water.
Please visit our charity: water web page to learn more and help us succeed.
Its hard to believe, but the last time you flushed your toilet, you used more water than the average person in Africa uses all day for washing, cooking, cleaning, and drinking.
45,000 people will die this week in Africa because of unsafe water, and 90% will be children under 5.
Today, 1.1 billion people woke up wondering whether or not they would have clean water to drink. Most of them will have no choice but to drink unsafe water, putting them at risk for disease.
80% of all disease and illness in Africa is due to a lack of clean, safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
Unsafe water kills more people in the world than all forms of violence, including war.
Why climb Mt. Kilimanjaro?
Many of the people who live in view of the Snows of Kilimanjaro do not have an adequate supply of clean water.
Kilimanjaro is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, rising 19,340 feet above the plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania, one of Africa’s poorest, and yet most peaceful, countries.
Our goal is to fund the construction of at least 3 clean water projects such as wells or rainwater harvesting systems in Tanzania. To make this happen, we need to raise $1 per foot—$19,340.
100% of the funds we raise will go towards the construction of the clean water systems. We are paying our own way to Tanzania and all of our own expenses, including guides and porters for the 7-day trek up to the top.
We plan to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro on March 22, World Water Day 2008. Then we will visit all three of the projects we are working on: a Maasai girls' school called Ondonyo Sambu, the Rugasha clinic in remote NW Tanzania near Uganda, and a Maasai village named Akaria.
Please read our blog for updates on our progress and visit our charity: water web page to contribute.
