HeartLine's programs:
HeartLine 2-1-1 : Provides Central Oklahomans 24/7 access to information on any type of health or human service, and this easy-to-remember telephone number is the best first place to call to get help, or give help.
HeartLine’s CareLine : Call Specialists are available 24-hours a day, every day of the year, offering compassionate listening, crisis intervention and suicide prevention. 848-2273 (CARE) serves Central Oklahoma.
HeartLine’s Suicide Awareness and Prevention Programs target two separate populations - one that serves youth and one that helps the elderly:
Healthy Education for Life Program (HELP) : Teaches youth about the warning signs of depression and suicide and how to get help. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Oklahoma youth ages 10-24. Since 1997, more than 36,000 youth, educators and parents have been reached through schools and youth-related community groups.
Healthy Aging Living Transitions (HALT) : Focuses on suicide awareness and prevention among the elderly - the age group with the highest suicide completion rate per attempts. HeartLine volunteers and staff answer calls from throughout Oklahoma to 1-800-273-TALK, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and to 1-800-SUICIDE, the National Hopeline Network.
HeartLine’s Gatekeeper Program of Oklahoma County trains volunteers to identify residents 60 years and older who may need assistance but do not know resources are available or how to access them. A call to 840-9676 mobilizes a response team to assess and link these individuals to appropriate services.
The Volunteer Center of Central Oklahoma became part of HeartLine in November 2005, and through 2-1-1, the Volunteer Center promotes and celebrates volunteerism by coordinating with agencies in need and placing individuals who want to give help with volunteer opportunities best suited to their interests.
HeartLine's HELP Program received the 2006 Education & Awareness Award from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma.Click here to view the awards presentation video:
