new full-length album in progress

About Me

Ian Young is a musician living in Los Angeles. While studying music and recording at the University of Massachusetts, he played bass in the collective indie/folk/rock act Will Brierly & the Roller Holsters as well as sang and played various instruments in his own solo project, Kill the Painter .
After graduating, Ian packed up and drove to California to work at a recording studio in Burbank. Vehicular woes and a lack of income forced him to leave the studio and apply his experience with audio to the home entertainment industry, eventually building screening rooms in the homes of actors, record & film executives, and other members of the Hollywood elite.
In late 2006, Ian founded ToneScene , a website that lets independent musicians turn their songs into ringtones and sell them to their fans. The website is under development and will launch this spring.
Ian has composed and arranged music for the following films by director JT Mollner:
Sunday Evening (completed)
The Red Room (completed - screening event coming soon!).
The I Scream Man , starring Crispin Glover and Haylie Duff (in development)Ian currently plays keyboard and guitar for rock and roll cover band The Generics . He is also rehearsing, rewriting, and recording material for his next solo project, a concept album titled Postcard, which includes the song "Continental Divide," featured above.
Ian is also a proud and often obnoxious advocate of open-source software, Creative Commons licensing, and many other things ending in .org:

thanks but no thanks

Has everyone received their "economic stimulus" rebate yet? I have, and exciting as it is to wake up to find an extra 600 bucks in your bank account, it's troubling to witness yet another episode in ...

eDrum pics!

I've mounted the hi hat and snare pad to the rack and painted it silver for some added bling. Next I need to build the hi-hat controller and some more pads for the toms and cymbals. I've yet to find...

e-drums

I can't wait; my order from Mouser comes in tomorrow. Then I can build the peak-detection circuit board for my electronic drumset. Once that's done I'm bringing it with me when I go back to Massachu...

Guero

I like the promotional effort Geffen is making with Beck's new album. Usually when a big artist like that releases a new one, the stations play ONE song ad nauseum and I tend to get sick of it before...

the e-drums are almost done

I've finished building the two MIDI computers I need for the e-drumset and they passed the smoke test. It's such a tease seeing them sitting there on the table, completed, and the interface isn't rea...

New Year's resolution

I think my New Year's resolution is going to be to put another album out in 2005. I've been working on one for over a year and I can't seem to finish it. It's a much different style of music from my...
