DJ Booshank started his love affair with music at the age of 9 years old, recording beat tapes using saucepans and yogurt tubs to live out his fantasy of one day owning a real-life drum kit. Fast-forward 10 years and we find a young man riding the tail end of the extraordinary warehouse party scene happening in Melbourne at the turn of the millennium. These events inspired him to purchase turntables and begin experimenting with his quickly growing collection of blues, 70’s rock, jazz, hiphop, techno, house and electronica. His passion for electronic music brought him together with then-blossoming DJ’s Peter Baker, Sam McEwin, and Jay Reading (who went on to form the Melbourne Techno Collective), and these four spent countless hours listening to music from all over the globe and conspiring to take over the local party-scene. DJ Booshank was however getting restless in Melbourne and pissed off to Europe for two years. This decision to remove himself from his current inspiration lead to a further expansion of his musical tastes that now sees him collecting music from numerous genres and eras.
On any given occasion he can be found playing disco, dub, funk, post-punk , hiphop, house, dancehall, Baltimore, boogie, and the various affiliated sub-genres. A blending of genres is the key to any of DJ Booshank’s sets, and his passion for discovering new sounds and uncovering old ones guarantees his audiences will be entertained to the last record.
