Là Par Force from Göttingen / Zwiesel /Barcelona have been on the European touring scene since 2002. Their releases include several EPs and an album (produced by Chad Istvan/Boysetsfire) on their own label Dancing In The Dark, as well as several compilations of cover versions.
LÃ Par Force rank amongst those complete idealists who gladly spend endless hours on a tour bus for a mere half-hour show, and even if there is only a handful of punters, LÃ Par Force play as if there were no tomorrow. For them music is not simply a hobby to enliven the tedious grind of their university diploma, it is the very core of their being: no more, no less.
It may seem a tired cliché, but it is a fact, Là Par Force does not sound like any other band!
On the one hand they cannot deny their punk rock past (the band does favour an independent and politically motivated framework). On the other hand their music is continuously evolving towards more ambitious pop music. The voice of lead singer Christina Hoidn, the melodic guitars, the powerful interplay between the bass and drum section... It should be difficult to find a band combining such diverse elements, but happily one exists, LÃ Par Force has done it.
LÃ Par Force’s influences are multiple and may appear bewildering at first, but on looking deeper into LÃ Par Force’s music it will all make sense. The dissonant post-hardcore of DISCOUNT, the complete works of PJ HARVEY, dark folk ballads as per IDA or THE WALKABOUTS and some pure guitar pop familiar from the likes of the PRETENDERS or the CRANBERRIES. They have left their mark in LÃ Par Force’s music.
Lately their everlasting love for wavy 80’s bands like NEW ORDER or JOY DIVISION has now started to insinuate itself into the band’s music.
Their new CD "WORK ETHIC" is the proof that catchy music does not always have to be shallow and inane. Similarly, important content, socio-critical and political lyrics do not ask to be presented in the old "faster-harder-louder style".
The band does not pay lip service to independence, ever since their formation, LÃ Par Force have organised and controlled every aspect of the band’s creation.
Their "go it alone" approach is an attempt to maintain their own unique direction. Due to the profusion of new bands emerging in the last few years competition has forced some to compromise their original vision.
This is not the case with LÃ Par Force.
