Band Website: theboils.com
Influences: We're influenced from a variety of different genres and performers.firstly, we're influenced by old punk rock. Bands like Cocksparrer, Combat 84, etc.secondly, a major influence on The Boils is old school reggae and rocksteady and ska. On From the Bleachers, we had The Arson Song, and Skinhead reggae beach Stomp that were our first ventures into adopting more soul into the band, and then we covered Jimmy Cliff's You Can Get It.On our new record, you will hear alot more of that sound. Bands and performers such as Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, and desmond dekker are among those older reggae artists that we celebrate. We hope that by brining this element into our music, it will maybe help diversify the scene a little more and bring some new people in. We're not trying to become a big band or anything. We just think the philly punk scene could use a little soul in its blood. We also like old crossover bands, as you might guess from From The Bleachers. DRI, Negative Approach, and Violent Society are such bands. There are a number of current bands that are our friends and family that we would be lying if we said they weren't in someway an influence on us. Pressure Point, Whiskey Rebels, Dropkick Murphys, Reducers SF, The Bodies, and Patriot to name a few, as well as Oxymoron from Germany. After our tour in Japan we were very influenced by amazing bands we saw there, such as Empi and The Hawks. And life wouldn't be worth living without Slayer. We champion diversity in the scene, but don't sing about it in every song. Other bands have already written far better songs about unity and tolerance....we sing about what we enjoy writing about.... You should all already be smart enough to know that being racist or homophobic is STUPID. Do you really need US to tell you that on every record?
