Hailing from a town deeply rooted in the indie music scene, Omaha’s pop-rock four-piece Rochester does not conform to the Saddle Creek agenda or sound. Creating songs that can lift the heaviest of hearts, this group concentrates on the positive and their hope for the future is as contagious as their lyrics and hooks.
Formed in January 2006, Rochester brings together elements from various genres, experiences, and influences like Blink 182, Relient K, Saves The Day, and Third Eye Blind. Spending early 2006 recording their first EP at Black Lodge Studio (The Get Up Kids, Motion City Soundtrack, The Spill Canvas), the group found their musical niche, forming a sound for fans of Mayday Parade, Sherwood, and Taking Back Sunday.
After making a name for themselves locally and across the world via 180,000 myspace plays, Rochester followed the old phrase of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it†by heading back to the engineering care of David Chutka (Brandtson, Motion City Soundtrack) at Black Lodge in June 2007. “The Morning Gale EP†takes listeners on a musical journey following the work’s namesake, showing that perseverance through hard times is not only possible, but is needed to appreciate the moments in life worth sharing with others.
Rochester has found stability and direction through sound and member changes, with their line up of Joshua Koterba (vocals and guitars), Phil Collison (drums), Tristan Costanzo (bass and vocals), and Drew Shuck (guitars). Following a journey all of their own, Rochester has stepped up through tribulations to share encouragement with their friends, peers, and fans alike with their latest effort. But this journey is far from over, and others are welcome to join the trip by taking off into flight with “The Morning Gale EP†on its November 17 release.
