About Me
OK So, first things first. Goldierocks. That's Sam Hall; blonde-haired vixen and rock n roll talent-spotter de jour.
Now most renowned for her energised DJ appearances, invading parties and aftershows all over the land - at some point in time, Sam's probably hijacked your fave indie/electro haunt.
Some highlights of late include playing to a rammed Cabaret tent at this summer's Reading & Leeds Festival, the Leftfield Stage at Glastonbury, hosting the closing parties of the Ibiza Rocks festival at Bar M on the white isle, warming up for Simian Mobile Disco at TDK Cross Central, playing main stage at the deliciously oddball Secret Garden Party in Cambridge, rocking the beach at Newquay Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival, headlining the vast super-club that is Razzmatazz in Barcelona, dancing on through flash-floods at Wakestock Festival in Wales, sending the Czechs crazy at Summer Of Love Festival in Prague, DJing Camden Crawl, The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, Lovebox Weekender and playing alongside Juliette and The Licks at the MTV European Music Awards 06 in Copenhagen, acting as an official Ambassador of British Culture, playing the huge nationally televised event that was Supernow in Budapest, Hungary, plus, numerous VICE parties nationwide including Tales Of The Jackalope in Derbyshire and the legendary VICE closing party at SXSW Austin, Texas. Plus official UK tour warm up slots with Mr Hudson and The Library, Transgressive Records Roadshow and Zane Lowe’s Home Taping Tour. Indeed not forgetting her adventures of years prior: spinning discs to eager thousands at Get Loaded In The Park, on a bill alongside Happy Mondays, Fatboy Slim et al, supporting Soulwax at Lux in Lisbon and glamming up the MTV European Music Awards 05 aftershow the evening following, not to mention the official Live 8 post-event celebrations; shaking up Koko with Mani (Primal Scream) at Camden Crawl 2006; trashing Giorgio Armani's yacht in Monaco, disc-jockeying at an exclusive backstage Glastonbury 2005 soiree on a specially curated bill also counting The Magic Numbers and The Chemical Brothers: Kiera Knightly seen nodding along in reverence; and a particularly, suitably sleazy outing for recently reformed slobbo-punks Motley Crue, following their most recent London reunion performance.
Her established monthly self-titled club night is a fine example (in the word's of MTV2/ Channel 4's Toby L) of Sam's provocative sense of 'style, finesse and foresight'. Her ultimate Electro-Rock N Roll Disco at the Elbow Room in Islington showcased a combination of established live acts, guest DJs, and hotly-tipped newcomers. Presenting the live talents of The Noisettes, Art Brut, Louie, Jeremy Warmsley, Chikinki, John Kennedy, Ladyfuzz, The Pipettes, The Rocks, The Modern, Cazals, The Chalets, The Archie Bronson Outfit, Emmy The Great, Rumble Strips, Misty's Big Adventure, The Research, VHS Or Beta, Akira The Don, Son of Dave and many of the vital alt-emergents worthy of notice. Rather than be constrained to the limitations of one location, Sam is now invading venues all over London and the UK, sporadically hosting events as varied as her music collection from vast, overwhelming club-nights, to intense exclusive showcases, kooky one-offs and afterparty/private luxury soirees. (See up and coming shows for details of the next event.)
This is of course not forgetting her extensive work in music journalism including her acclaimed Goldierocks column in independent national music magazine Spill and UP Magazine, her role as Nightlife Editor for Rockfeedback.com, guest articles and interviews in renowned papers such as Music Week, Logo, i-D and fashion zine Phamous 69 and coffee table classics such as Tamsin Blanchard’s “Green Is The New Black†(Hodder, London, 2007). Also to note her contribution as a speaker to a number of specialist music panels at industry conferences such as In The City and London Calling 06; her presence and influence also rapidly spreading into the worlds of radio and TV. This being specifically visiable in her monthly Goldierocks pod and video-casts available on itunes, as well as in her guest TV work for Self Adhesive TV, 1234 Records Festival, London Fashion Week and Afterparty Huddersfield amongst others.
Entwining taste with style, zest and motion, her sets and appearances are more performance rather than mere, tame exhibitionism building, and popping just when the ambience is ready, and the crowd screams for more. Goldierocks is infecting the capital, and beyond. Polish up your dancing clogs, it's going to be a long night.
