About Me

I'm a beer geek who works full-time as a systems analyst in the health care sector. Most of my extra-curricular activities from the early 1990s up to the end of 2005 were focused on electronic and experimental music, and included gigs as a writer/reviewer, radio DJ , concert promoter , and head of a tiny record label (the latter two done with my wife, Sheryl Kirby ).
With the end of all of these projects, I needed to find something else to fill my spare time, and writing about beer seemed to be a fine option. I became the news editor at Toronto beer website The Bar Towel in early 2006, and followed this with an occasional beer column at Toronto food & drink webzine Gremolata .
In mid-2006, I got the itch to write some stuff about beer that doesn't really fit in at either of those places. My interest in music writing also started to flare up again, and I thought it might be fun to throw a bit of food writing into the mix as well. So, I started a blog called Beer, Beats & Bites . I haven't been updating quite as often as I'd hoped, and the music & food aspects have been pretty under-represented so far, but I try to get something up there at least once a week.
In early 2007, Sheryl and I launched a website called Taste T.O. which focuses on the food & drink scene in Toronto. It features restaurant reviews, shop profiles, editorial pieces on local food issues, round-ups of food news in the local media & blogs, and more.
In addition to this underused MySpace page, I also have an occasionally monitored Facebook account and a rarely updated LiveJournal .

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Since trying to navigate MySpace tends to give me a headache, I'm not really into the whole "networking" thing. Basically, if I don't know you outside of MySpace, either in person or via at least semi-regular online contact, I probably won't friend you. Nothing personal, I just don't see the point in having loads of "friends" who I don't actually know.
NOTE: I got tired of shitty bands I've never heard of sending me friend requests, so I've changed my privacy settings to not allow friend requests from MySpace Music accounts. If you are someone I actually know who wants to friend me from a Music account, drop me a line and I'll set up the connection from my end.

My Blog

Taste T.O.

This will be of interest mainly to people in Toronto and area, but the rest of you might find it interesting as well:Sheryl (my wife) and I have recently launched a new website/groupblog called Taste ...
