I am an American Soldier.
The Army National Guard is an elite group of warriors who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Each state has its own Guard, as required by the Constitution; in fact, it is the only branch of the military whose existence is actually required by the Constitution.
The Army National Guard began on December 13, 1636, when the Massachusetts Bay Colony organized three militia regiments to defend against the growing threat of the Pequot Indians. Today, the Army National Guard continues its historic mission of providing defense for the nation.
Since 1636, the Guard has brought glory and honor upon itself and its soldiers through quiet and selfless service. Do you think you have what it takes to be a member of this select group?
In the Guard you become a Soldier. What does it mean to be a Soldier? It’s being a part of noble tradition of service extending back almost 400 years. It means you become a member of the best trained, best equipped, and most respected military force in history. It means you will make a difference.

Here is some CRAZY incentives for people who want to join the active Army OR Air Force (full time)

WASHINGTON - A new Army program dubbed "Active First" promises up to $60,000 in bonuses to recruits who opt for 30 to 48 months of active duty then transfer to the National Guard.

Recruits who sign on under the program, which started Oct. 1, receive $20,000 for 30 months of active-duty service, $30,000 for 36 months and $40,000 for 48 months - all paid after completion of basic and job training.

After active service, Soldiers may opt to re-enlist in the active Army or take an additional $20,000 to serve their remaining obligation in the National Guard. Active-duty Soldiers already have a service obligation through the Individual Ready Reserve, through which they are not paid but may be recalled to active service.

As of Oct. 23, 43 applicants had signed up for the program, according to National Guard Bureau spokesperson Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke.

"The huge benefit we're getting out of it is we know we're going to have Soldiers come back to us three or four years down the road, highly skilled and with a lot of experience," said Sgt. Timothy Bilbrey, who trains Virginia National Guard enlistees awaiting shipment to basic training.

Some of those Soldiers will be able to fill squad-leader and even platoon-sergeant slots, depending on how quickly they move up the ranks, Sgt. Bilbrey added.

"It's also great for the enlistee because he or she gets all the benefits of going active duty, along with up to a $40,000 sign-in bonus, then another $20,000 upon coming back to the Guard," he said.

5 Military Myths - BUSTED! Military.com | Marco O'Brien There are many misconceptions and myths about the military floating around out there. Often when I run into people and tell them that I am in the military, I spend most of my time busting myths about the military. Here are five common myths busted. MYTH #1 If you get in trouble with the law, then your only option is the military. Ever heard the old saying “Go to Jail or Go to the Military?” BUSTED! This is probably as far from the truth as you can get. The military actually has to know about any run-ins with the law, no matter how minor. All branches of the military run FBI background checks on all prospective members. However, just because you have a glitch in your past doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t join the military. Commanders can authorize waivers for certain offenses although approved waivers will make some jobs unavailable. The reason some jobs become unavailable is because certain jobs require security clearances. This means the member will have access to classified and/or top-secret information and this access requires top-secret security clearances. If you have a glitch in your past, check with your local recruiter to see if a waiver is possible. MYTH #2 The military’s benefits and pay are not competitive with the civilian world. BUSTED! The military offers very competitive pay and benefit packages. Entry-level pay and benefits are hands down superior to entry-level jobs in the civilian sector. Just try to find an entry-level job that starts at $1300/mo, pays for food, housing, medical, education, 30 days paid vacation, and many more benefits. MYTH #3 Women have a hard time achieving success in the military. BUSTED! Approximately 95 percent of all jobs in the military are open to women. Women have accounted for the largest increase in enlistments and the percentage of women serving on active duty has doubled since 1978. Women currently account for approximately 15 percent of the entire military force. MYTH #4 Military training and jobs have little relation to the civilian world. BUSTED! I get this one quite a bit! The reality is almost all the jobs in the military have direct civilian counterparts. All jobs offer leadership skills needed everyday in the civilian world. About 80 percent of the jobs in the military are non-combat occupations. Many civilian companies seek out military veterans for their work ethic, dedication and leadership skills to fill key positions within their companies. MYTH #5 Going to military right out of high school means you will not get a college education. BUSTED! School counselors are good at keeping this myth alive. Although most high school students have good intentions about going to college many have not come to the reality of how they are going to pay for college. The military fixes this problem. Not only does the military pay up to 100 percent of college tuition while you serve on active duty, the military also offers the GI Bill (about $36,000) to use for college up to 10 years after leaving the service. The Air Force actually has the largest community college in the nation called the Community College of the Air Force. Enrollment is automatic when members join the Air Force. Each service has specific voluntary education programs unique to that service and much of the training obtained in the military is college accredited. These are just five of the many myths out there about the military. People with good intentions who just don’t know any better often start many myths. The military is continually changing and is much different than it was even 10 years ago. To get the facts on today’s military start by talking with a recruiter.
