One has to live! Live first and pay afterwards

About Me

Hi, I'm Lax Charisma. I play in bands most notably I was in a band called Hee Haw. That band was a lot of fun and I miss it sometimes, mainly our bassplayer, that guy was a monster. We came 2nd in a university band comp, got signed to Highbeam Music and put out an EP call "How To Pay Your Debts When You're a Genius". JJJ played a song off it called "Famous Last Words" which we made a filmclip for that got played on Rage a bit too. That band split up and I found myself playing in this other band who really were just a bunch of creeps. That was fun for awhile, I got to do some great support shows for a few of my favourite bands most notably Beasts Of Bourbon, Salmon and Even. I got kicked out of that band a few years back, or I left the band it depends what day it is and who is telling the story...I'm pretty over all of the stories actually. Now I'm part of a cult like band of misfit rogues called The Nice Folk. It's my favourite band I've played in so far, it's free of trying to be something that its not and doesn't give a shit about "making it" We are making it and this year we played with Ian Rilen & The Love Addicts and Spencer P. Jones (two of our biggest inspirations) and had a blast playing Kemblastock 2005, so yeah we ARE making it.We've just put out our 1st EP "Guide To Sedation & isolation" I'm happy with it. You can buy it for $10 at Music Farmers if your interested. Some days it's just a bunch of guys and girls who like each other and like hanging out drinking beer and smoking a bong or twenty (although recently I gave up both, but I still love hanging with them). We are constantly changing line-ups and people keep joining us (we numbered 12 at one point). People come and go and for them the door is always open, nobody gets kicked out.Nobody actually ever knows where it's going and I love that, plus I reckon Dave mutton is THE most talented songwriter that I have worked with, because he's lived the life he is writing about and not just trying to be it. I sing and play untuned and unpracticed electric guitar in the band and write a few of the songs (Dave writes most of them). I'm in love with our Trumpet/Flugelhorn player Captain Special K. She makes me smile lots and is the best girlfriend ever. I do a community radio show on Tuesday nights called Eclectic Avengers (10-12PM 106.9 VoxFM) 2 weeks ago we celebrated the shows 13th year. It's fun to play records that I would be playing at home anyway and having other people enjoy them as well, and I love that our small but loyal group of listeners are constantly supplying us with more cool stuff to play that we haven't heard before. Thats about me in a nutshell. I watch bands, a bit less than I use to because I got sick of being one of 3 people at the venue, I've been staying home and listening to more music, reading, writing stuff, watching Neighbours and playing lapsteel...well trying to play it. I'm getting better. Soon I'll put strings on my banjo and try and play that too. Is that enough about me yet?

My Interests

I'm interested in stuff that is interesting.

I'd like to meet:

It's easier to say who I have met. I've met David Bowie, Marilyn Manson (no they arenot the same person/people), The Tea Party, The Dandy Warhols, Ozzie Osbourne, Megadeth, Mick Harvey,Nick Cave,Sepultura, The Damned, Renee Geyer...fuck I don't know. They are just people. I wished I had more to say to Bowie, but the truth of the matter is I wasn't expecting to meet him and just kind of mumbled "hello". If I meet him again I'd have lots of questions, namely is there a version of "The Prettiest Star" with Marc Bolan on guitar unreleased. Meeting people is fun, but it's the freaks with a story to tell who seem to know something you need to know, they are on late-nite trains, they are at the bar during the day, these are the people I like to meet. Famous people are no different than you or me except they are famous and usually wankers because they are allowed to be. Yes Marilyn Manson I'm talking about you.
