Anishnawbe Current mood: thoughtful Category: LifeSomething I wrote long ago.Anishnawbe have a history that dates back to 50.000 years ago or more in North America (Turtle Island)It has been many years since Anishnawbe people, were one with there surroundings. Anishnawbe and other Native American have been through a lot since the Europeans arrived on Turtle Island, the robbing of our culture, other beliefs shoved down our face. Anishnawbe still as a people have a strong connection with God, (Gitchie – Manito) Great Spirit and no one will break that connection and bond. The Anishnawbe people long ago and today believe that all living things have a "Spirit" within, a life force that is within all living things. The human mind is limited to understanding the fundamental concepts and many other concepts about this world. There is life all around us. The Spirit World is on this earth, sun, space, stars, and the universe etc. That's the spirit world, the after world. After death, when we are in the "Spirit form" we will have a greater understanding about the world around us and that our question about life will be answered. One of the greatest gifts that the Great Creator gives man and woman were to respect, love and to help one another. Life is very important. The Anishnawbe people have many ceremonies, which are practice today. For example, lists of these ceremonies that are still practiced are: the Shaken tent, Sweat lodge, Vision quest, Talking drum ceremony and the Ma-day-win (Grand Medicine Lodge). There are many difference types of sweat lodge ceremonies. We also have the Seven Grand Father teachings (Sevens fires) to keep us in order. The Meaning of the Anishnawbe WordAnishnawbe –Meaning of this word, First people, Original people, whence lowered the male of the species, first man. In many books and websites, they state that we are Algonquin stock. However, they are incorrect, we recognize our selves as Anishnawbe. Ojibways, Ojibwa, Ojibwe, Ojicree, Cree, Chippewa, Potawatomi and Algonquin, etc. and we speak the Anishnawbe language. Lenni Lenape is another way to say Anishnawbe in old form. Many of Anishnawbe people were a big family at one time, before the whites came to this land. To learn more ask the elders, go to the Mi-day-win ceremony and to other ceremonies and listen to the elders speak and you will learn the history and values of the people. The teachings I talk about are not my words, but from the elders stories. Many of us know these old stories and other stories that have been past down from generation to generation. Here are some stories I like to share. The Story of Crow and EagleLong ago, the prettiest bird in the sky was the Crow. The Crow was so beautiful like no other. Yes, the crow had a beautiful voice also, and sang songs for all the animals, and Spirits. Everyone was proud of the Crow and look up to the Crow. However, Crow met Eagle sitting in the nest and got jealous. Crow would make fun at Eagle and would tell Eagle how bad Eagle looked. Many years had past, Crow would continue teasing Eagle, and Crow started teasing other animals in the world. The Crow would steal, and eat eggs from other birds and teased them. One-day Crow was very hungry for eggs; Crow flew for many miles, until Crow reached Eagle nest, in the nest were great big eggs. Crow ate the eggs and choked on one of the eggs, Crow was choking. Eagle came back, and saw Crow choking. Eagle wanted to help, but it was too late. However, before Eagle can help. Crow fail towards the ground, the ground was cover in black mud, and so Crow landed and was still choking. Crow had black mud all over his feathers and he was making an awful noise. This why the Crow is, the way Crow is today. It said that if one does bad things in life, he or she would have a negative outcome, however, if you do a good deed in life you would have positive life.Life is ImportantIt has said long ago, a great war among the tribes in North American. After, the first settler divided many of the tribes. The Anishnawbe tribe watches from a distance of tribal warfare and only to see men fall over greed. One of the tribes that lost was the Iroquois. After, the great battle two Iroquois men were left for dead. The Anishnawbe people sought to help them; over time, the Iroquois men were well once more. The chief had a talk to one of his sons, and to the grand mother of another son. To take a journey that would never bring them back. Their mission was to take home the Iroquois men back to they homeland. Therefore, the boys went on their journey, once they got to the Iroquois homeland the Anishnawbe boys were killed. The Anishnawbe chief knew his son was going to die on the journey, and never come back. However, he will see him in the after life. One of greatest things in life was to protect life and to teach other the same value. Life is one of the important things to the Anishnawbe people, and to all walks of life. The Gift of the RattleLong ago, they lived an Anishnawbe woman. She had her first-born child early spring. One day her man went hunting with the men. At this time, her first-born would cry none stop, from dawn to dusk the baby would cry. She was very worried about her child and seeks an answer from the held clans' woman. The clan woman told her to put an offering out and ask for help to the Spirits. Two days had past, the baby was still crying, and one morning she heard a voice in her lodge. She enter to find a strange creature within the lodge, it had a rattle at the end of its tail and was singing a song. The creature told her that he was told to offer her a gift. He offered his rattle to help stop the baby from crying. However, the creature told her in return she would fear him. The rattle fell to the ground and the woman started to scream out loud and other ladies from the tribe came running to see what was going on and they all started screaming at the snake. The Rattle Snake left his rattle to help the child from the sickness it hold and he taught them a song to be used with the rattle.A WarriorA warrior of today and the warrior of the past were to look deep within the human soul. The caretakers of the people, watching and full filling the every need of the people he protected. It was a great honor to be a warrior for the people of the past it took great strength. A warrior was a father, a husband, and a friend to count on when the time was needed, life was very important and so comes great respect for all the walks of life. The warrior of the past is the warrior of today.HopeLonger ago a boy foretold the future of the great time when all men would come together; it took the heart of a child to teach this to the people that had great respect for life. No one was perfect within the great circle of peace. He gave the teaching of the symbol of the great circle and along came four colors of the people of this world. Red, White, Black, and Yellow. Today the people call it the four directions. The story is lost within the people, only a few know the true meaning. Long ago the people and other great tribes open their arms and welcome the new people from over the great waters. Knowing that the time had come the time to come together and knowing that it would take time for all colors to come together.DreamsWhen we dream, we go to the Spirit World. We see bites and pieces of what we understand when we wake up. The mind it self in our bodies cannot process the meaning of our journey. To find the answers seek for some one that has great knowledge about spirituality. He or she will find the answers and meanings behind your dreams. Dreams are connection to this world and to the Spirit world.Last thoughtOne of the many stories my father taught me. My father always stated to me is that we do not need a book to tell us how to believe in God. In all of us, it is a common sense that we have a great connection with Gitchie Manito (Great Spirit). He state's to go out and the woods and pray and give thanks to him for the life we have.9:35 PM - 1 Comments - 0 Kudos - Add Comment OgamaWabPosted by OgamaWab on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 8:06 PM [Reply to this]
