Linda Blair, Alanis Morissette, R.L. Stine, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Stephen King, Twiggy Ramirez, Perry Farrell, Brian Molko, Stefan Olsdal, Robin Wilson, Jesse Valenzuela,...I HAVE met Davey Jones of The Monkees!
(these are mostly in order)Led Zeppelin, Jane's Addiction(oh and, idiots, there are ALOT more songs than Been Caught Stealing and Jane Says...), Alanis Morissette, Smashing Pumpkins(1988-2000), Placebo, The Beatles, The Doors, The Association, The Byrds, (the music of) The Monkees(And hey, just because The Monkees were a 'made-for-tv-band' doesn't mean they are not creditable, and don't have ANY musical experience, read the bios. Mike and Peter were musicians to begin with. They auditioned cuz they thought they were going to be in a band. And Davey had some prior drum experience, he taught Mickey. And either way, they're all great singers. Ok, I know who is supposed to be most credited. It's Tommy James and Bobby Hart..I may have the first names wrong, but yeah, I KNOW who they are, I also KNOW that Neil Diamond wrote alot of their songs as well. But in actuality, Mike wrote alot of their songs too. I just hate the rap that The Monkees get. The music of 'The Monkees' was great. I know we live in this bullshit, hardcore, metal generation, and I'm considered a queer, a poser, and just plain weird because I like The Monkees, but do you think I give a shit or even have to? I'm not a poser because I LIKE The Monkees, I'm not a poser because I can ADMIT that I like The Monkees.), Tori Amos, Type O Negative, Gin Blossoms, The Cure, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Hole, Jimi Hendrix, Guns 'N Roses, Aquefrigide, Our Lady Peace, The Cranberries, Jack Off Jill, Slayer, Marilyn Manson(everything before Holywood; well let me put it this way: off of Mechanical Animals I mostly just liked Rock Is Dead; off of Holywood I liked Disposable Teens, and I think there was 1 more good one. Basically I'm more of a fan from the Smells Like Children days and Antichrist Superstar was pretty good, and then I got Portrait of An American Family, and it kicks ass. So basically the early days of Manson.), Stone Temple Pilots, Better Than Ezra, Sepultura(before Max left), Sleater-Kinney, Live, Sublime, Velvet Underground, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, The Exploited, The Casualties, Kittie, Ramones, The Gits, Tool, Black Sabbath, Primus, Collective Soul, Soundgarden, Bush, The Who, Nirvana, White Zombie, Tonic(I'm not familiar with any of Tonic's newest stuff, if they're still making music. I really just know the first and second albums.) Green Day(before Warning), Veruca Salt, Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Vandals, Goo Goo Dolls, Incubus, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, 311, Toadies, Dinosaur Jr., The Chemical Brothers, Steppenwolf, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, MuteMath, Aerosmith, Sex Pistols, Cream, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, Amon Amarth, Arghoslent, Cannibal Corpse, Cradle of Filth, Orgy, U2, Pantera, Tattle Tale, Lois, The Breeders, OLD Korn, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Marilyn Monroe, Gene Kelly, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Beethoven, Tchaicovsky, Chopin and some other Classical, Rasputina, The Gathering,....I could go on for fucking ever...I DO NOT listen to: Emo, too much newer Pop,...Polka(lol), My Chemical Romance(whatever ya call them), Evernuesance..er- Evanescence, Hoobastank, Green Day have completely sold out so no more of them..., Linkin Pork..er- Linkin Park, Kid Rock.
I'll even listen to a tiny bit of Rap, some Country, I tend to listen to certain World music: ya know, like music from India, maybe Africa, maybe even American Indian, some Spanish,...I LOVE soul music, not the slow stuff, the more hyped-up stuff, like "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley, lotta stuff by good ol' James Brown, some stuff from Otis Redding, Clarence Carter....I'm not really a Limp Bizkit fan, but I love their version of "Faith".
I do not listen to songs based on a positive or negative message in the song. I hate when these people say, "Oh god, that song helped me through a rough time!" Whatever. Yeah, songs are uplifting, and they make you forget about your stress and pressures. But it's the MUSIC that does that. It's not the lyrics. Most people I know think that they can only listen to a song based on the lyrics. Who cares what the lyrics say? I listen to songs with lyrical messages I DON'T believe in. Because it's about the music!
I've actually had some asshole tell me I'm an "emo fag", and I should "go cut your wrists!" because I have this opinion on music... What the fuck? First of all, my point is, if you're sitting around analyzing the lyrics, YOU ARE A POSER! This is what I was taught. I asked a friend once, what do you think these lyrics mean? and he literally cussed me out for like a half an hour. Who cares what it says in the lyrics, or what it means, either listen to the song, or don't. Plus, WHEN DID EMO BECOME GOTH?!?
Ok, now for the negative messages. Alot of my more hardcore orientated friends, and most of them are (I need different friends...), need a NEGATIVE message in a song in order to appreciate it... I don't even know how to comment on this.
Basically, I have soooo many people prodding me with questions about my BROAD music tastes. Well, all I can say is, I know how to appreciate music. They say, how can you appreciate that music? I say, you're not asking me these questions, you're asking yourself. You don't understand it because you don't know how. Plus you're mostly going by a reputation. Your friends can't see you listening to a certain kind of music, and/or artist/band, so you "don't" listen to them. I used to be in that situation. I used to be young and striving to be accepted. But after awhile, I just couldn't ignore the songs I liked so much that my friends refused to accept me for listening to. And it's nobody's business, I can listen to whatever I want. And I don't believe in lying, or being closeted about something. So here it is..I might lose a few friends for this, but I don't care, this is who I am, and I'd be lying if I kept it to myself, and keeping it from my friends is lying, and lying is the biggest form of disrespect: I LIKE A FEW SONGS BY BRITNEY SPEARS!
I also love Michael Jackson. He made incredible music, and I've always loved it. I don't care about the controversy that surrounds him. For the most part, I don't believe any of it. Yes, Michael has always had an enormous amount of respect for children, he believes in helping the ones that are in need, and what's wrong with that?! Everybody has to turn every thing into a sexual thing...idiots. Yeah, yeah, he's obsessed with the whole Peter Pan thing, never growing up, being a carefree child forever, but we ALL feel that way sometimes. Come ON. I have never seen any proof that he molested a child. Ever. Plus, now we're getting into media issues. Don't listen to the media, you'll "go blind". The media just reports what they hear, and they twist it around sometimes, so why should we believe anything they say?
Like Kurt Cobain's death. I first heard about it through a friend, he told me Kurt killed himself, and right there, I didn't believe it. Now I know I had no good reason to say that he didn't kill himself going by that information. It was just a gut feeling. But since then, I've studied everything there is to study on the subject, and it's even more obvious now that he didn't kill himself. Especially since the media says he did. Everyone writes this off as "conspiracy theories". They're not conspiracy theories. There is factual evidence proving that he didn't kill himself. ...I know of alot of facts, but I don't think I should comment any further on here about that.
(these are mostly in order)The Exorcist, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Star Wars(Classic Trilogy ONLY), The Big Lebowski, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory(Gene Wilder), The Birdcage, The Matrix, Alice In Wonderland, Superbad, But I'm A Cheerleader, Dazed and Confused, 13 Going On 30, Office Space, Cabaret(Liza Minnelli, Michael York), Joe's Apartment, Bio-Dome, 3 Ninjas, Back to the Future Trilogy, Somewhere In Time(Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymore, Christopher Plummer) History of The World Pt. My movie interests aren't just confined to horror because my fave is The Exorcist, I'll watch comedies, dramas, family comedies, romantic comedies, "docudramas", musicals,.....; I don't like anything that's too...ridiculous, ya know, like National Lampoon's Van Wilder, nothing too stupid. I've probably left out a million of my favorites too, basically, I DEVOUR movies, we have so many movies in our house, there's no place to put them...I have a PASSION for Pirate movies, like alot of guys have a passion for sports? I have a passion for Pirate movies. I haven't seen very many, but I just love them. Pirates of The Carribean is ok, to me it's just a cheap mimic. It's not bad, it's just so overrated. I think people are starting to see it as what GAVE BIRTH to pirates...
