since 1964 the supremes have become the number one girl group in the world. no other girl group has had more number one hits than the supremes. at a time when it was seldome for a black female group to have a number one hit, the supremes tore down that wall and shook the world with there music. the supremes were on the motown label, a label owned by Berry Gordy in Detriot MI. the members were Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson.the supremes were not an intsant hit. it took 3 years until the supremes finally took the number one spot. it began with the album ''where did our love go''. the album contained 3 1 hits on the pop charts and became the first album to have 3 1's on an album. the first of theese 3 1's was ''where did our love go'', followed by ''babylove'' and then ''come see about me''. the album was released in 1964 and became 2 on the pop charts. the supremes were not the first girl group to have a 1 song on the pop charts. that title is held by the Shirelles with ''will you love me tomarrow''. the next album to have big hits was ''more hits by the supremes'' in 1965.it contained 2 number one hits and a top 11 song. ''stop in the name of love'' then ''back in my arms again'' and finally ''nothing but heartaches''. 5 1's in a row. making the supremes the first group in america to have 5 1's in a row. the next song ''nothing but heartaches'' broke the stran of 1's peeking at 11 on the pop charts. then came the album ''i hear a symphony'' which contained the top ten hit ''my world is empty without you'' and the number one hit putting the supremes back at the top spot ''i hear a symphony''. then came the record breaking ''supremes- a go go'' album which contained the top ten hit ''love is like an itching in my heart'' and the number one hit ''you can't hurry love''. ''supremes- a go go'' was the first album by a girl group to reach 1 on the pop charts.
then there was the album ''supremes sing holand/dozier/holand'' which contained the number one hits ''you keep me hanging on'' and ''love is here and now you're gone''. the next album would be ''diana ross and the supremes greatest hits'', which was the first album to bare the name diana ross and the supremes. the album contained a number one hit which was not on any other supremes albums, which was ''the happening'', the supremes 10th 1 hit. the next album was the last album to have florence ballard on background vocals.
''diana ross and the supremes reflections'' which contained the top ten hits ''reflections'' and ''in and out of love''. although the album cover has shown diana ross and the supremes new member cindy birdsong, the album was recorded with florence ballard doing the background vocals. the album was released in 1967 and florence ballard was released from the supremes and then ended up sadly passing away in 1976 at the age of 32. florence ballard was an important member of the supremes just as any supremes fan will tell you. from here on the supremes career started to dwindle. although the supremes would have 2 more 1 hits, ''love child'' and the 12th and final 1 hit on the pop chatrs ''some day we'll be together'' which was also the last 1 hit of the 1960's. the supremes also had 2 more top ten hits which was the top ten hit with the temptations ''im gonna make you love me'' which hit 2 and then ''im living in shame''.the supremes did not disband until 1977. diana ross left the supremes as lead vocalist in 1970 to follow a solo career at motown. then the supremes saw 3 members come and go before finally breaking up in 1977. although the supremes never had another 1 hit after diana left, the supremes still saw 2 more top ten hits. ''stoned love'' which was also the last rab 1 hit for the supremes and ''up the ladder to the roof''. the supremes also saw 3 more songs in the top 30. the supremes never had the same sucsess as when diana was in the group but still had a few hits to continue with. the supremes all together had 21 top ten hits on the pop charts making them the only female group to have that many as well as making them the only female group to have 12 1 hits. all around the world the supremes are still remembered for the things they did from 1964-1977. the only other group bigger than the supremes in the 1960's was the beatles. the supremes are not only a big part for whomen but also for african american whomen. the supremes tore down every wall that was in there way and shook the whole world with there music. trully theese 4 whomen from the original supremes 1964-67 and 1967-1970 have trully made a lasting impression and made there mark on history forever.Now here are some good supremes videos!where did our love gobabylovecome see about me
