Darla Hood was born in Leedey,Oklahoma,November 4,1931.Fist short at age four,Our Gang Follies of 1936, last short Wedding Worries. Appeared in fifty Our Gang comedies over six years. Her mother made up the name Dorla then somebody at the studio misspelled it Darla everyone like the name so it was Darla. Her father was a banker,but her mother encouraged Darla's talents with singing and dancing lessons in nearby Oklahoma City.Her teacher took special interest in Darla, bringing her along on a trip to New York City where one night at the Edison Hotel in Times Square the band leader invited her to sing and conduct the orchestra. The crowd loved it. Roach casting director Joe Rivikin happened to be there and arranged for an immediate screen test.Hal Roach liked the test and signed her to a seven-yeat pact beginning at $75 a week. From then on she was fixture as Our Gang's Leading Lady and also had other jobs in other units around the Roach lot.Charley Chase used her in Neighborhood House and Stan Laurel used her in The Bohemian Girl. As a teenager she formed a vocal group with her first husband called"Darla Hood and the Enchanters." In 1957 she married artists manager and music publisher Jose Granson. In 1979 Darla was Hospitalized with hepatitis and died under susicious circumtances.She was 47 and lived in North Hollywood.Darla with Laurel & Hardy
